looks good on chrome

interesting - i find css design from scratch also good, but it is often quite a lot of effort to get everything right
poseid··on Show HN: Python AST explorer
ok, thanks, i was asking since i was playing with simple ASTs myself here http://embeddednodejs.com/compiler/

nice user interface - how do you wrap pyhton's grammar in the browser ?
poseid··on The LLVM+SDCC toolchain
for non compiler experts, how does llvm decouple a language from a target machine?
poseid··on Linux on an 8-bit micro? (2012)
it takes longer studies - but possibly this is a good start https://www2.eecs.berkeley.edu/Pubs/TechRpts/2014/EECS-2014-...

was reading about instruction sets a couple of hours ago, the performance bottleneck is often the memory pipeline not so much the size of the instructions
poseid··on The ESP32 has been released
maybe you also like embeddednodejs.com - the book is currently in early release (drop me a note if you like a proof reading version in exchange for a short book review) thanks!
poseid··on The ESP32 has been released
exactly, this is what i meant, for simple projects, the cheap costs vs time to invest to get it running was not worth it
poseid··on The ESP32 has been released
getting started with the esp8266 was mainly for ppl with some background in soldering. also, flashing the esp8266 was not too easy (python script, some system libs needed to be present iirc). for beginners, i found arduino, tessel or espruino to be easier. also, espruino now runs on esp8266 - the ecosystem that will evolve around the esp32 will be interesting to see

nice collection - i keep some notes myself here, and was able to generate my own parser with Jison https://github.com/mulderp/mulderp.github.com/issues/13

Once the parser returns the AST, it is getting more complicated, how to decorate an AST, add actions, etc. still looking to learn more about compiler backends

poseid··on Ask HN: What books do you wish your manager would read?
A basic understanding of JavaScript technologies, as described in my book http://pipefishbook.com/
poseid··on The future of computing: After Moore's law
Moore's Law also enables a new kind of hardware (open-source) and the internet of things: http://thinkingonthinking.com/hardware-cost-reductions/
poseid··on No Compiler – On LLVM, and writing software without a compiler
I experimented with the gypsum programming language based on Python a while back: https://github.com/jayconrod/gypsum

It indeed is great fun to see recursion at work - yet, I had my first sleepless night due to high concentration of grasping what was going on.

wasn't there are website somewhere with a list of failed startups?
poseid··on From the Trenches: Making an IoT Platform Work with ESP8266 and CC3200
if Smart.js contains a new kind of JavaScript runtime for embedded devices, that might be interesting to put more into focus (and compare e.g. with Tessel or Espruino projects).

The protocols: HTTP, WebSockets, MQTT are pretty standard now. What is their relationship with Smart.js? Why e.g. are Arduino libs not used?

For high-level system design, Node-Red seems to gain traction, what is the difference between Node-Red and Smart.js ?

poseid··on From the Trenches: Making an IoT Platform Work with ESP8266 and CC3200
so, it works with X, Y and Z, but what does it do? Is is a dashboard for data from IoT? Is it a web server/protocol ? Is it some other kind of control layer? What data does it deal with, etc. ? Not clear from the first glance.
poseid··on From the Trenches: Making an IoT Platform Work with ESP8266 and CC3200
interesting to see the comparison between ESP8266 and CC3200. However, on a quick glance it is hard what Smart.js is about and what platform it supports best. This might be interesting to know in the context of a book that I am working on, see http://embeddednodejs.com/chapters.html

poseid··on Stream Processing vs. Complex Event Processing
when I read "stream" I also think on streams in Node.js - might be nice to mention that they are quite useful too
poseid··on C++ developer sees Rustlang for the first time
nicely written - Rust also attracts some interest in embedded development lately.
poseid··on Re-designed Chart for React
nice, I use D3 for most of my visualizations, but indeed React might be interesting too

nice btw!
poseid··on Show HN: LED Me Know: LED Notifications for Tests Using Node and Arduino
next steps: use an arduino nano with an HC-06 bluetooth dongle to remove that cable. Also, another step might be using an ESP8266 and make a webserver out of it (maybe some links to get you started here: http://embeddednodejs.com/chapters.html )
poseid··on Marvin Minsky’s Marvelous Meat Machine
thanks; still a bit confusing. but I get that a Von Neumann machine can be simulated with a Turing machine. So, the Turing machine is more fundamental. Still, let's say my instruction set is ADD, LOAD, STORE, where do these instruction live in a Turing machine?
poseid··on Marvin Minsky’s Marvelous Meat Machine
for non-computer scientists, but rather for engineers, how do Turing machines map to the stored-program computer that have instruction sets, stacks, RAM and ROM ?
poseid··on Marvin Minsky’s Marvelous Meat Machine
really nice writing, but the title "meat machine" ?
poseid··on Heap on Embedded Devices: Analysis and Improvement
interesting visualizations
poseid··on Farewell, Marvin Minsky
really nice thoughts, esp. about teaching and discoveries "marvinminsky said [...] that the best way to teach programming was to start by showing people good code"
poseid··on Marvin Minsky's Society of Mind Lectures
interesting reference list - this course seems to discuss specifically layers for cognitive systems. I think "society of mind" addressed more general concepts and ideas about cognition and semantics.
