polotics··on TIME Is Serving AI Bots a Different Website, with Ads Built In
why would the terminal not say "completed in 30 minutes" even if it's only really 5 minutes of real work and 25 minutes of thumbs twiddling? If your agentic-harness provider is in bed or just the same as your LLM provider, that is the rational `best` case scenario/timeline. for them.
polotics··on Gallium: Why the US Cannot Produce Precision Missiles and Fully-Functional F-35s
Well, be careful what you wish for. At least I was able to stop reading that thing pretty quickly: it's not unreadable, it's untrustable! ...and yes, adding non-LLMish malapropisms has become my Captcha...
polotics··on SQLite Critical CVEs or LLM Slop?
You're a fast reader :-D

No quantum bullshittery in there I promise.

Equating "classical" with "deterministic" is however pushing it a bit too far, when no one and nothing can ever do even a very small fraction of said determination...

polotics··on SQLite Critical CVEs or LLM Slop?
May I suggest the excellent & recent book: "The brain. In theory" by Romain Brette?

This is going to elevate your thinking on this no end, if you're interested.

polotics··on SQLite Critical CVEs or LLM Slop?
Wow you just got us a complete nostalgia moment to the good old times when the computer who always beats us at chess became `not artificial intelligence`...
polotics··on US Military asks troops for 'creative and unconventional' ideas to punish Iran
The school wasn't Grok, as I understand it it was bad data in Maven.
polotics··on The Future, Made in China
Can you be more precise maybe?
polotics··on The Future, Made in China
Can you qualify the benevolence maybe as a factor of the distance to Beijing?
polotics··on Why we write our own C and C++ inference engines
The thing is... although the writing is unmistakably full of LLMisms, I can't fault the `author` for having produced a slop readme. The content earns its keep, it only grates because of the robotic personality. We need another word than "slop" for this.

"blland", "llame",... ?

polotics··on A Rant About “Technology” (2005)
That "loosely" hides a bit of a tragedy on the Studio Ghibli adaptation: instead of accepting the transcendent Hayao Miyazaki work that she and we all deserved, she refused what she misunderstood would be a Disney-like cartoon...

And instead of this, much later, the not-at-all ready son, Goro Miyazaki, had a go without having done the massive thought-work that you can for example glimpse Hayao doing on the emotional arc of Ponyo

polotics··on The time filter in Google Search broke a few days ago
So does your interpretation then also mean that a planned deprecation of Search has started, with well-timed reliability deprecations, so that users are deliberately being taught to rely only on AI summaries?
polotics··on BMW Spider-Man in-car advertising
Or they know it's a race to the bottom where as long as every brand's doing it, consumers have no choice...
polotics··on Show HN: I audited my AI leaderboard scale – every score dropped 6-15 points
Ok. As you write AGI is == 100, can you clue us in as to what general intelligence is?
polotics··on The Glass Famine
This gives me sickening vibes of the "War is a racket" take.

Both side's agreeing to enable each other's massacre of their own country's downtrodden young masses, while all sorts of profiteering going on at the back no doubt.

polotics··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
classic generalization: no one I know blames all Germans, but they do blame specific banks and even individuals who profiteered and allowed the conditions for the crash to develop
polotics··on Who the welfare state protects shapes a country’s financial openness
Yes the Germans were wrong. Artificially low interest rates were won with the switch to the Euro, and German and French banks were the lazy careless agents, not the Greek Hotels chain or Italian restaurant taking on the cheap money under the false assumption pushed by same banks that the 2000's would be an era of ever growing prosperity and European integration.
polotics··on ChatGPT claims rogue AI attacked more companies
Which regulators though? There is no AI regulator that I know of, and I'm not sure they should be one. Exaggerated marketing blurb is pretty legal, right?
polotics··on Deflock Casa Grande
Doing his job as a CEO he's making noises, desperately trying to move the overton window now that enough concerned citizens have been made aware of how much malfeasance his product enables, and how little safety it brings. I think at this point a few more inane statements from the guy are to be expected, desperately trying to shift the hate onto his well-protected person and away from his fragile electronic boxes & the malware they run.
polotics··on Why a $154B CEO just endorsed stripping most Americans of voting rights
Considering the current gerrymandering, all sorts of regulatory capture, and a two-party system that's captured most voter's sense of identity and packaged it for abuse... I think this discussion is extremely theoretical.
polotics··on If digital computers are conscious, they are conscious at the hardware level
...and if a theory is not falsifiable, then it's not wrong, right? Did I miss something in there?
polotics··on US citizen charged after GrapheneOS phone wipes during airport search
it's a bug: the wipe should only apply to a see secure enclave, and the phone should restart `normally`
polotics··on The Strongest El Niño Ever
oh you looked up 2126 on the Google did you? can you explain this verification process a bit more maybe? is it based on world3? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World3
polotics··on The Strongest El Niño Ever
can you show us the world model that predicts this outcome? which variables does it take into account?
polotics··on Agentic test processes, LLM benchmarks, and other notes on agentic coding
so nice to read an information-dense somewhat stream-of-thought properly long human written post!
polotics··on Claude Opus 5
because "less" can be so much faster?
polotics··on Be skeptical of OpenAI's rogue hacker agent story
mmh, i think it's "not uphill" (means downhill) "no headwind" (...)
polotics··on It's getting harder to focus every day
Advice that works: - Watch the Robert Sapolsky human behavior lectures.

- Learn about basic neuropsychology, to at least have a working understand of the triad Default-Mode-Network, Salience-Network, Executive-Network.

- Watch your ambient CO2, also at night.

- Sleep so that you always wake up with no alarm.

polotics··on Show HN: An MCP server that turns async-work practices into tools
The readme is so thick with breathless LLMisms that it makes one wonder what is the point. That's a bit sad because the book's website and blog appear interesting, the author can write. Still: shall I spend 10 bucks by buying and reading the book, or by consuming tokens on LLMs that read it?
polotics··on Boys' ADHD symptoms linked to addictive social media use in new study
I strongly suspect that, like the Southampton Six, what we're looking at here is a faster unmasking of underlying neurodevelopmental issues, and not causation.
polotics··on The Kimi K3 Moment
really!? nobody paid me anything for my comments on HN.
