If you see something that is popular but you think it is worse, then your better/worse axis is not aligned with the majority.
For example, X is better than Mastodon because you don't have to pick a server to use.
Mullvad themselves already turned off port forwarding because people were using it to host child pornography. This is like Mullvad's port forwarding, but free.

The central control has to develop, alongside everything else. Somalia isn't centrally controlled because it can't be, because it's not developed, and doesn't have a way to be centrally controlled. If it was, it would be. See: the history of any developed country.
