pm2222··on 'systemd-tmpfiles –purge' deletes your /home directory, not just temp files
systemd-tmpfiles should not default to delete files from /tmp or /var/tmp. The folders are shared!
pm2222··on Mass. statewide 911 outage caused by firewall false positive blocking 911 calls
Nothing to see here, move on.

the exact reason the firewall stopped calls from reaching dispatch centers remains under review
pm2222··on Ask HN: What is the best financial advice someone has ever given you?
Compound interest. Save early.
pm2222··on Systemd 256.1: Now slightly less likely to delete /home
i have issue with it automatically deleting files from /tmp which is a shared dir:

  $ cat /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf
  q /tmp 1777 root root 10d
  q /var/tmp 1777 root root 30d
pm2222··on Systemd 256.1 Fixes systemd-tmpfiles Unexpectedly Deleting Your /home Directory
Read the other recent discussion on Debian moving to mount /tmp as tmpfs in upcoming stable release. It’s just confusing at the least if not a bad idea outright that systemd-tmpfiles goes out to delete files in /tmp regardless of how and by whom files were created. /tmp is a shared folder.
pm2222··on Linux China, which supported the Chinese open source community, has ended
Basically he’s overloaded, can no longer supports the whole site on his own and there it goes the shutdown.
pm2222··on Ask HN: SICP Setup in 2024?
Sicp has a js version just fyi
pm2222··on Debian's /tmpest in a teapot
Oh really I thought my arch should only clear /tmp upon startup. No wonder I lost files in /tmp

The upstream defaults for systemd are to mount /tmp as a tmpfs and delete files that have not been read or changed after ten days in /tmp and 30 days for those stored in /var/tmp.
pm2222··on Debian KDE: Right Linux distribution for professional digital painting in 2024
Arch user with this update and it has served me well. Just ignore the kernel stuff and only update userland/libs etc:

  pacman -Syu --ignore linux,linux-headers,linux-api-headers
pm2222··on Google Earning Q1 2024 [pdf]
meta.ai and groq, even bing copilot work for me. Google usage for me has reduced a lot. As such I’m not optimistic about google’s search business.
pm2222··on IPv6 for the remotely interested

  1. one data point: my verizon fios gives out /56, my openwrt takes a slice /60 out of it for lan and then my linux box gets /64
  2. there is nat and you can use it in linux.
majority of home users does not need a public ip address so ipv6 for home is not that useful.

pm2222··on Got my ultimate retro KVM setup working
AliExpress has lots of retro game consoles though the game selection is limited to whatever that’s offered. The hw is nice, hook up to hdmi, wireless controller etc.
pm2222··on Supermium – Chromium fork for Win 2003/XP and newer
Some folks prefer Debian as vm host as it’s considered stable. 2003/xp or even dos can be considered a stable host for browser. Why not? These days I don’t have to manually install many apps a browser meets most my needs.
pm2222··on GRUB2 Modules (2010)
Grub is very reliable complex as it may be. Its lifespan in the system is only a second I’m fine with that.
pm2222··on SQL for data scientists in 100 queries
At least on 3.45.1 double-quoted as data no longer works.

    delete from work where person = "tae";
                      error here ---^

I’d say probably never.
pm2222··on Microsoft suggests command line fiddling to get Windows 10 update installed
If only there’s a way to transfer my win oem license which comes with my laptop, I’d totally switch around the host/guest setup and shrink my host windows to a guest vm.
pm2222··on Microsoft suggests command line fiddling to get Windows 10 update installed
My win10 kept giving me “bug check” reboot treatment and I had to go win11 reluctantly. Oh well, there goes my vertical taskbar.

pm2222··on Release Cosmopolitan v3.1
Grow to QEMU sort of user mode possible?

Java is another I wonder about similar growth. It has grown so big why not just do a compiler already in addition to the vm? Cosmopolitan eventually can follow same suite.
