pjharrin··on Ask HN: Any startups looking for a free marketing guy?
1) My apologies

2) I've done some simple SEO, social network marketing, PPC and blogging in the past. Will to do whatever is needed. If you don't trust me to do more advanced tasks we can build up to it.

3) For some reason GoDaddy stopped pointing to my tumblr blog, waiting for the records to update. Thank you for pointing this out I'll go and change my profile

pjharrin··on Ask HN: Should we as community create all-star groups for RFS?
People would apply for an RFS showcasing why they are qualified for that particular idea, their previous experience, working habits (to ensure team members get along) etc.

The community could then put it to all poll.

The other option is to simply have a database showcasing every interested applicant along with contact info. Then it would be up to them to find a team that works well together.

pjharrin··on Poll: Are entrepreneur-types unemployable?
I think most people tend to hire other people with similar characteristics as them. So a person who went to an top 10 school is likely to look for that on a resume, just as an entrepreneur will look positively on a candidate with an entrepreneurship spirit
pjharrin··on Ask HN: Are there any good books on statistical quant analysis?
I'm just looking to create the system and then simulate running it. Have you had any expereince in doing this type of thing?
pjharrin··on Ask HN: Does anybody have the link to the trading systems post? (couple months back)
Thanks

pjharrin··on Using an automated day trader to generate income
Hence why I said "at some level"
pjharrin··on Using an automated day trader to generate income
I agree that trend analysis has a lot smaller foundation for the long term, but in the short run its essentially analyzing the supply and demand of the stock, which can be predicted (not all of the time of course).

Outside factors like news don't occur everyday, so the using technical analysis for intraday trading is very reasonable

What is investing if its not a IF/THEN statement?

If price goes up then sell, if price goes down then buy. If the company meets these financial criteria then buy, if not then sell. If the price approaches a resistance level then sell.

Whether your basing the investment decisions on fundamental or technical analysis, either way its an IF/THEN statement at some level.

pjharrin··on Ask HN: Is there a better way to find out if there are competitors than Googling for it?
Yea I don't know what I would do without crunchbase
pjharrin··on Ask HN: Best online brokerage?
Make sure you don't qualify as a pattern day trader (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pattern_day_trader)

Unless you are looking for education services or becoming a day trade, any discount broker will do. As with most things the more you pay the more you get, ie. thinkorswim isn't the cheapest but they focus on education

pjharrin··on Ask HN: Is there a better way to find out if there are competitors than Googling for it?
Crunchbase.com very very helpful
pjharrin··on Ask YC: Free-ish stock ticker information?

pjharrin··on Ask: Know any good community site about online investment?
trade2win.com/ is a good forum for technical analysis
pjharrin··on Ask: Know any good community site about online investment?
thinkorswim is a brokerage. I suggest investopedia.com/ and books. Figure out what style of investing you want to try: value, technical etc. Then go buy a book on the subject.

Other people have told me that they learned a lot of investing info from just blogs and books

pjharrin··on Prosper.com, P2P Lending Startup, Shut Down by SEC [pdf]
How has techcrunch not picked up this story yet?
pjharrin··on Prosper.com, P2P Lending Startup, Shut Down by SEC [pdf]
I really liked Prosper, I thought they were doing a very good job of executing their idea. It will be very interesting to see where this goes
pjharrin··on Ask HN: Review my startup
I believe travelfli.com/ is going to be doing a similar thing, so make sure you market a lot to get the market share
pjharrin··on Ask HN: Who's Hiring?

pjharrin··on [dead]

pjharrin··on Ask YC: Feedback on idea
Yea the real idea is to help people find hidden gems and from there find similar gems. The music scene is already pretty crazy though with last.fm and pandora and the millions of other sites trying to help people discover new music
