- How are you so sure, human?
How to capitalize this is indeed a harder question. My mind gravitates more towards something like GPT3. If you fed it all your memories (expensive, I know) and gave it a prompt of "I was thinking about a funny gif with a dog and a mug in a room on fire", it'd for sure get you the this_is_fine.jpg. But the answer is not quite what I typically see myself wanting. Instead, I want to navigate this graph (the understanding necessary to make the connection from the prompt to the jpg in the first place) myself, and see what's interesting and non-obvious there. That's what I interpret as "being able to talk with your zettelkasten".
If I'm super zoned in in a meaty problem where I could work alone (or with one person max), I can obsess about it and invest all my waking time minus some 4 hours (1h lunch, 1h dinner, 2h unwinding). This is a straining effort that requires deliberation and appropriate care (either the work is galvanizing you enough, or you're gonna need downtime after this).
This seems to be on the higher side of the bell curve, from what I've talked with other folks, but certainly not at the top. I know a person that can do 10 hours, pretty much consistently, peppered with cigarette and meal breaks. One person, in all my life. Trying to emulate them will probably be very damaging for most people. Seen multiple people having breakdowns trying to do that.
You might not be on the high side but I recommend you:
- Don't feel bad about what you can do today. Just admit it candidly to yourself.
- If you want to, train this skill, pretty much like you'd train anything else with your body. I bet it's going to be a lot like weightlifting: slow, sloggy, and needing some restraint to not push yourself into injuries.
Documentation and evidence is now power for you.
All these small necessary evils are nothing compared to bigger pains. From the top of my head.
I'd kill to have a Gemfile scheme that's actually used by everybody. We could emulate this pretty darn closely with setup.py and requirements.txt (for Gemfile and Gemfile.lock, respectively). But, most of us just don't. Tox generally makes matters worse (since it promotes people dropping even more untracked deps in there), even though it's a great tools for what it was designed.
I don't always have time to read it. But, when I do, I never regret it.
Also, why not a javascript bookmarklet?
