Well, if you have tests with 100+ lines of such explicitness, it becomes really hard to see the high level picture of „what is tested here“.

As usually, there is a balance to be found.

pintxo··on Finnish City Inaugurates 1 MW/100 MWh Sand Battery
Germany, and these are numbers from our gas heater. But the house is almost 50 years old and not insulated to current standards (yet).

We got a heatpump this year, going to be interesting to see how this changes things.

pintxo··on U.S. Military Strikes Drug Vessel from Venezuela, Killing 11
To be fair, the US governments of the last 25 years have all been contributing to the current state of affairs in terms of eroding the rule of (international) law.
pintxo··on Finnish City Inaugurates 1 MW/100 MWh Sand Battery
Really like the idea, but my house alone has roughly 16 MWh/a heat consumption. Of which half gets consumed November through January.

So this system could supply 12 houses? Shows the importance of proper insulation, which is still on our todo list.

Cooling needs tend to correlate with the availability of solar energy. While heating especially far north does not so much.

Because they are not atomic bodies?
pintxo··on AWS deleted my 10-year account and all data without warning
If only 10 out of 100 of your investments make it, does it matter if one of the 90 failed because of lacking backups? Their risk strategy is diversification of investments. Not making each investment itself bulletproof.
pintxo··on Two guys hated using Comcast, so they built their own fiber ISP
Nice analogy!
pintxo··on Random selection is necessary to create stable meritocratic institutions
I don’t see any need for that. There are enough weirdos in politics today that the weirdo rate might even go down when selecting people at random.
pintxo··on Random selection is necessary to create stable meritocratic institutions
This training thingy sounds sensible. But who controls the contents of the training? That body will have quite some power.
pintxo··on Random selection is necessary to create stable meritocratic institutions
Given that legalese is still commonly prone to interpretation. I‘d rather have more Mathematics and Computer science people to ensure proper logic in the texts ;-)

„You keep am stupid, I keep them poor“, said the king to the bishop.

If SpaceX had to distribute their spending like NASA across states/senators/political influence, I doubt they would be anywhere near were they are today. I wouldn’t call this a failure of public science/research/development per se. It‘s a failure of democracy, but maybe it’s also a feature?
pintxo··on The last six months in LLMs, illustrated by pelicans on bicycles
I assume, when people dismiss it, they are not looking at it through the business lens and the 100m user signups KPI, but they are dismissing it on technical grounds, as an LLM is just a very big statistical database which seems incapable of solving problems beyond (impressive looking) text/image/video generation.
pintxo··on Computer science has one of the highest unemployment rates
What could possibly go wrong making education a for-profit business? /s
pintxo··on Nick Clegg says asking artists for use permission would 'kill' AI industry
If that’s true, can we agree to slap on a 10% tax on every AI company’s revenue? To account for the externalities?
pintxo··on ICE Deports 3 U.S. Citizen Children Held Incommunicado Prior to the Deportation
If people of the past would have followed that argument, we would not have seen the declaration of human rights of the French Revolution, not have had the civil war, slaves might still be slaves. Hitler’s successors would reign Europe.

Sometimes good people have to do what is necessary, even when it means to make things worse initially.

No, are we in such a moment now? I don’t know, but that’s the problem, right? You never know at the time.

pintxo··on America Is Backsliding Toward Its Most Polluted Era
One 1-2k/year seems rather cheap to treat an ongoing chronic illness? As asthma will be an ongoing problem when started?
pintxo··on Your Startup Doesn't Need to Be a Unicorn
Germany are also very risk averse. So we need such programs even just to counter this risk aversion.
pintxo··on Doge Is Planning a Hackathon at the IRS. It Wants Easier Access to Taxpayer Data
It‘s the worst ideas together, but the alternative is even worse? That does not make any sense, logically. But I guess this summarizes the current situation quite nicely.
pintxo··on I Quit Google Search for AI–and I'm Not Going Back
Yeah, everyone is talking about free markets. But no one likes the idea of a transparent market.
pintxo··on U.S. national-security leaders included me in a group chat
> Nothing to stop them turning around the next day and changing their interpretation again.

Why describes mostly every law enacted by a parliament? They clearly have that power to change the laws they enacted at any time.

So where is the problem if parliament delegates this power to some executive entity?

Now, if delegation is not clearly defined, this is another issue I can understand. And I am not interested enough in the minutia of US legislation to have an opinion on that.

pintxo··on Elon Musk's Starlink Expands Across White House Complex
I was merely replying to the parent post.

I would be massively irritated if the White House would not have multiple levels of redundancy. Which makes the article just more confusing.

pintxo··on Elon Musk's Starlink Expands Across White House Complex
Sounds like good technology / business practice?

I run two independent (Technology + Provider wise) internet links for our house, as both my SO and myself are permanently working from home.

The legitimate interest that there does not exist a tool that allows any random person to create art in the same style as she does? Which could arguably devalue their offering?
pintxo··on Microsoft's new Dragon Copilot is an AI assistant for healthcare
Did you encounter any instances of hallucinations or omissions?

One would image those to be the biggest dangers.

pintxo··on Germany's Water Consumption Down 17% Following Nuclear Reactor Shutdowns
Actually, water is scarce in some parts of Germany [1], it might not look like it, but there are still drought conditions in the soil of some parts of Germany [2].

pintxo··on Barcelona buys apartment building at center of eviction protests
It is a common model in Germany, together with city/state owned companies. The latter have often be privatized in the early 2000s, unfortunately.
pintxo··on Pathfinder 1: The Airship That Could Usher in a New Age
Part of the pitch was to be able to deliver extra heavy cargo to places without other infrastructure, but if there is no other infrastrukcture, how do they get the water(-tanks) and (big) pumps there?
pintxo··on Pathfinder 1: The Airship That Could Usher in a New Age
I am well aware of their fate.

Turns out, if you transport extremely heavy stuff, you'll either need to take on massive ballast when offloading or ditch much of your expensive Helium. Either is not helping with turning a profit.

Let alone that fact, that any of this will only work of there is no wind at both the start and end of your journey.

But I guess the swimming resort is kinda nice.
