pinoy420··on jj: a Git-compatible VCS that is both simple and powerful
Aside:

I am want to know people who use anything other than the very basic git checkout, fetch, push, merge, rebase, stash, status commit, reset.

What are you doing?

I think I have used cherrypick once? Generally I open two copies of the same repo, copy paste the code I need and commit as a new commit - the former invariably ends up as a whole mess which takes longer than copy paste efforts of the “feature” I wanted to retrieve.

This is a genuine question not rage bait. I have been in the game for 15 years. Surely there are mega complex things using git internals / obscure commands to run analytics in CI systems or hosted git solutions. But I want to know what you are doing in your workflow that requires “more” of git.

pinoy420··on Anchoreum: A game for learning CSS anchor positioning
What do you mean by cute?
pinoy420··on Anchoreum: A game for learning CSS anchor positioning
“No” basically. Unless it can be poly filled into safari (ios) it is not worth adopting just yet.
pinoy420··on Firing programmers for AI is a mistake
What it’s not good at is anything within the last 2 years (due to training cutoff) all fail at latest remix, svelte and selenium syntax for example.

This is an eternity in FE dev terms

This is such a fantastic piece of research. Thank you if you are reading. I wish amazon and Microsoft did similar
pinoy420··on Meta’s Hyperscale Infrastructure: Overview and Insights
I do not mean this in an offensive manner at all. Are you between the age of 18-30?
pinoy420··on Working from home is here to stay
Why do you say that? I have worked remotely for the past 5 years. Almost every job I get thrown at me is remote.
pinoy420··on Meta’s Hyperscale Infrastructure: Overview and Insights
Sounds like a horrific place to work. Imagine the pressure
pinoy420··on Perma.cc – Permanent Link Service
So who maintains the database? Or is it hashed? Or what?
pinoy420··on Scroll-Driven Animations
I think there are people who like the aesthetic. I don’t think many put thought to whether they objectively like the concept of it.

Given the choice of a page with information readily available or a page where you have to scroll and it does whacky animations to present the information.. I don’t think many would choose that.

pinoy420··on Fake VS Code Extension on NPM Spreads Multi-Stage Malware
Also interesting how good Kaspersky is
pinoy420··on Fake VS Code Extension on NPM Spreads Multi-Stage Malware
Considering vscode is itself malware. Probably nothing other than, yes, use a separate VM.

I am an avid vscode advocate, but it is incredibly invasive and security ignorant.

pinoy420··on Undergraduate shows that searches within hash tables can be much faster
It didn’t really go in to either. It doesn’t have any sort of benchmarking or any best/worst case fits?
pinoy420··on Undergraduate shows that searches within hash tables can be much faster
Eli5?
pinoy420··on I Like and Use Global Variables
Not sure how that is any different besides construction of an object rather than a file with globals?

Katana is a grean tame. I remapped my n and t keys already.

I guess it didn’t say pleasing?

Library genesis

For creating a backup of library genesis. No. They should be awarded a philanthropic prize.

“Just”(TM)

The bane of my life.

Glad I grew out of that eventually.

I completely agree.

pinoy420··on Microsoft deletes official Windows 11 CPU/TPM bypass for unsupported PCs
Office is moving web based. OWA is first class now, with Outlook New being a thin wrapper around it with some natives. Also their mockups all use macs primarily so “go figure”
pinoy420··on Software development topics I've changed my mind on
How many errors are actually recoverable. I bet most thrown exceptions could be replaced with a printf(“it went wrong here”) for all their utility.
pinoy420··on Software development topics I've changed my mind on
Very surprised at this attitude.

Or am I. The typical engineering savant omniscient to all future past and present engineering roadblocks fixed by “Just”(TM) thinking about it beforehand. I expect this from bay area mid level not someone with credentials.

Strange because I agree with so much more of the article

pinoy420··on Software development topics I've changed my mind on
With ChatGPT I am enjoying Typescript development and learning a lot. Unfortunately with ChatGPT being - in JavaScript terms - decades behind the state of the art. It becomes a little challenging to get it to do what you want. But it gets me 80-90% of the way there 70% of the time. Which is a huge win.
pinoy420··on Apple Invites
Got to love the HN bubble. Anti anti apple is immediate downvote even with a sensible argument like yourself…

A lot of people (definitely here) need to understand this.

pinoy420··on Nine – seemingly impossible C64 demo
All you need is a little “Just”(TM) and everything is possible.

Typical HN comment minimising the immense effort required to do %thing% due to their own arrogance.
