pietromenna··on Privilege escalation with polkit: How to get root on Linux with a seven-year-ol
I simply love this kind of articles and writing style!
pietromenna··on Things I wish someone told me about getting a promotion
Great article, I specially liked that you pointed out 3 points: Visibility, Keep learning and being in the right place makes all the difference.
pietromenna··on Tech giants join call for funding U.S. chip production
It is always nicer to do things with somebody else's money. Not with out own, right? Even if we have money to spend.
pietromenna··on REST vs GraphQL vs gRPC
I agree with you that there is support for oData v2 and v4. But they are not exactly mainstream out there. I like oData v4 and I try to use it when it is opossible.
pietromenna··on Zero Data App
From the list I love draw.io. It asks for login, but allows the export, has a client that can be downloaded and works just fine.
pietromenna··on Kubernetes is deprecating Docker runtime support
I found the title just a reminder to invest learning concepts and topics that can last a life time. Tools come and go, and it is healthy to change from time to time.

Containers as a concept is an important learning, but the implementation for today may not be the same as the one in 5 years from now.

pietromenna··on Microsoft Overhauls Excel with Custom Data Types
This is how I do it as well.
pietromenna··on Microsoft Overhauls Excel with Custom Data Types
Unpopular opinion: what turned Microsoft into what it is today was not Windows at all. It was Office, and specifically Excel.

It is the best of breed on the category by far.

But yes, only used by those who can't code.

pietromenna··on Be prolific
The best teacher out there is a failure, and you only get better when learning new tricks. Let's use quantity of failures as opportunities to learn!
pietromenna··on How Satya Nadella turned Microsoft around
Thank you!
pietromenna··on How Satya Nadella turned Microsoft around
How can I read the full article without having a economist subscriber? It is really annoying to have this walled garden for news that do not support price parity for lower income countries (I live in one).
pietromenna··on Hacktoberfest Is Now Opt-In
I think for next edition: - Maintainers should create a month ahead opt-in and list some good issues for hacktoberfest. This means, we agree to help you start on OSS and have something which is meaninful for us listed. - A browsable list of projects which opted in. So you can look for projects to contribute. - It will look something more like GSoC. - What I think it would be great is if maintainers are willing to mentor newcomers so they are able to help more in the future, not only on a given october timeframe.
pietromenna··on Secret gyms and the economics of prohibition
It is a healthy hobbie. By the way, also cleans you mind. I do run long distances, but with the current situation I am no longer able to run outside they way I wanted. So I started going to gyms, and yes, probable they should not be working, but it keeps me mentally sane.
pietromenna··on Garmin services and production go down after ransomware attack
I am happy I am still able to run, even with their services down. But I found no comments on the internet at all about the reason of the incident.
pietromenna··on The End of the Redis Adventure
Thanks @antirez!
pietromenna··on New iPad Air and iPad Mini
I'm 36 years old. My usage for tablets (the iPad):

- Read eBooks (yes, it is great, BUT Kindle is better for this)

- Watch movies, netflix, etc.

- Give to your toddler/kid on a trip as pacifier. (Yes, it is the main usage) :-)

pietromenna··on I learnt C++ in 2018 and have no regrets
great article, I learned a lot from it:

1. Current setup and where to go learning (the books) 2. It also had nightmares in colleague with C++, but yes, C++11 fixed a lot of it. 3. Nice links to the other tooling.

So, author, thank you for your post!

pietromenna··on Gardener: Manage Kubernetes clusters across multiple cloud providers
I used Gardner to create k8s clusters for testing, I found it really easy to use and just have the configurations needed.
pietromenna··on All about Go's Stringer interface
Great post!
pietromenna··on Beej's Guide to Network Programming
He also have other guides! This are old but gold guides! I learned C with his guides and also learned network with this one.
pietromenna··on Ask HN: Developers with kids, how do you skill up?
I can only speak for myself. When my wife and daughter go to bed, I can stay 2 hours coding;reading or watching videos which improves my skill. The truth is that when you have a newborn it is impossible, nut once they grow (more than 2 yo), it is completely doable. Of course, you will feel tired some days and just watch a movie, but trying everyday helps.
pietromenna··on Understanding /proc
Thank you!
pietromenna··on Understanding /proc
Which other OS uses procfs?
pietromenna··on Writing for Half-Life
I am unable to access at all the sites. Really curious to read the main article
