philsalesses··on [dead]
It was centered 1 mile away from the Lake Anna nuclear reactor. Fingers crossed that their safety record was top notch... I can't reach anyone down there to check.
philsalesses··on MIT Media Lab studying cities (and more) and we need your votes.
First, I apologize for posting once previously. I had a poor title and I couldn't figure out how to edit or delete it.

Preliminary results for one question are here: http://pulse.media.mit.edu/results

philsalesses··on It's possible to determine your pulse based on how you click.
Isn't that what marketing is? Telling a version of the truth but doing it in a way that leads minds to another ideal? Apple, Think Different.

If anybody has any comments or feature requests, please share. This is my grad school project. I still have another year to make this thing kick ass, but it's a decent start for now.
philsalesses··on "It'll never work": a collection of failed predictions
"When an experienced scientist says something is impossible, they are almost always wrong. When an experienced scientist says something is possible, they are almost always right" - my memory, but almost certainly somebody else first

I have 31% confidence there is something there...

philsalesses··on Apple’s Next Greedy Move: Exclusivity
I can see Apple offering monetary subsidies to a select few applications, granting them special access to engineers, to get exclusive access, but sorry, I don't see them doing this.
philsalesses··on Google doesn't get 'social', but Apple doesn't understand the Internet
In my opinion, facebook can see order where others would see chaos. Order does not mean hierarchical yet too often those are the buckets information is placed in. Facebook identifies hubs and organize things around those hubs. Flexible yet rigid organizational structures are the future.
philsalesses··on Hosni Mubarak finally steps down
This is a side question and I'd like to get any/all opinions since I have yet to find a suitable answer to this.

How do I, as an American citizen, minimize cognitive dissonance when the following disparate events occur?

America's stance: democracy and 'freedom' are fundamental rights of all people.

-and-

America's actions: refusing to recognize a democratically elected body because the resulting will of the people is openly hostile towards America and Israel (Hamas winning seats in Palestinian elections).

philsalesses··on The CIA’s amazing bots
That's the recruiting pitch they use, but in all honesty, I think it's bogus. Things have changed. Researchers are now more likely to take a job elsewhere than volunteer to be locked away in the depths of Langley. We have no grand enemy and those capable of developing such technology are choosing to work for contractors instead

Background on this device: has been declassified for some time and it's main defect was that it can not function in over 2-3 knots, both from an acoustical recording quality and navigation standpoint.

philsalesses··on Node v0.4 announcement
I'm starting a new project and I can't wait to see what this thing can do.
