pfg_··on What's happening to reading?
I can read in my head fine. Reading aloud I'm slow and words come out stilted. It's a skill that takes practice to be good at, and it's rare to need. I don't think that's a useful metric.
pfg_··on US court strikes down 'click-to-cancel' rule designed to make unsubscribing easy
That's unsubscribing from an email list, not a paid subscription
pfg_··on Show HN: CSS generator for a high-def glass effect
Firefox on Android often lags for me with backdrop blur effects
pfg_··on IRS Direct File on GitHub
The problem I had with the papers is they don't tell you when you need to have another form. Guided question software will ask questions to determine if you need forms.
pfg_··on IRS Direct File on GitHub
You don't know what they used internally. There are two commits on github which just dump the code from whatever they used for version control for the past two years, and no further development will take place.
pfg_··on Show HN: Easel – Code multiplayer games like singleplayer
WASM-4 has a simiar multiplayer model. There's some things you still have to be careful with, like delaying screen transitions so you don't have a "you win" screen flash for a few frames when the other player didn't lose but their input hasn't gotten t o you yet.
pfg_··on Just use HTML
It's super zoomed out on my phone, it doesn't have a mobile viewport. And if you do want to read text, you have to zoom in more than the width of the full page so you have to constantly scroll left and right.
pfg_··on Ask HN: What are good high-information density UIs (screenshots, apps, sites)?
Affinity designer went the opposite way and colorized them in 2.0
pfg_··on VR Design Unpacked: The secret to Beat Saber's fun
They host the files. Beat saber does not.
pfg_··on Show HN: Bhvr, a Bun and Hono and Vite and React Starter
Without typescript, if you make a mistake in a type, it will throw an error at runtime when you try to use it. Then, you have to backtrack to find where it was created to find the bug.

With typescript, there's an error squiggle in your editor under the bug before you even run your app.

pfg_··on CSS Hell
Firefox on android makes the viewport size bigger, but maybe it depends on the original size of your phone
pfg_··on Cursor IDE support hallucinates lockout policy, causes user cancellations
Copilot's tab completion is significantly worse than cursor's in my experience (only tried free copilot)
pfg_··on WebTUI – A CSS Library That Brings the Beauty of Terminal UIs to the Browser
If you forget a flag, can't you move your cursor and add the flag? No need to type the whole command again
pfg_··on Gemini Live with camera and screen sharing capabilities
If you're releasing something today, should you talk about what it can do now or what it might be able to do in two years?
pfg_··on We Designed TigerBeetle's Docs from Scratch
Content security policies can also set in a meta tag in html
pfg_··on BreezeWiki makes wiki pages on Fandom readable
Can't work for twitter because they block logged out requests (unless you're logged in)
pfg_··on Crabtime: Zig’s Comptime in Rust
Zig doesn't have macros, it has functions which can be run at comptime. You can make a function that returns a type and call it from another function. All declarations are only analyzed when they are first used, and functions when called at comptime are memoized based on their arguments. The order of evaluation is really simple and predictable.
pfg_··on How I accepted myself into Canada's largest AI hackathon
In this case they had permissiona set up - but your application status was stored in the same object as the rest of the info you could modify, and you were allowed to read and write to it.
pfg_··on Introducing command And commandfor In HTML
contenteditable is incredibly painful to use, not standardized and different across browsers, and buggy in firefox
pfg_··on How Core Git Developers Configure Git
Setting merge conflictstyle diff3 or zdiff3 will improve your experience if you ever do any merging
pfg_··on Anyone can push updates to the doge.gov website
Yes, you modify the history uodating every commit after the changed one and then force push. Git has built in ommands to help. Anyone who has the repository cloned can tell if that happened because all the hashes will be different.
pfg_··on Bun 1.2 Is Released
Node does have the same thing, and you can access it with `--expose-internals` from `const { getStringWidth } = require("internal/util/inspect");`. They don't expose it for some reason.
pfg_··on 43K fewer drivers on Manhattan roads after congestion pricing turned on
You can also have fully closed streets open to emergency vehicles as long as a path is kept clear
pfg_··on The Origins of Wokeness
bipoc means a different thing than black. you should use the word that has the meaning you want.
pfg_··on Coding Font Selection 'Tournament'
My favourite is Verdana and I haven't found anything else that feels similar
pfg_··on Ghostty 1.0
no. it's planned for the future to make a libghostty that is embeddable, and it would be up to someone to make a modification for vscode to do that (not sure if it can be done with vscode's extension api)
pfg_··on Ghostty 1.0
not only does it support them, but the default font provides them. although it splits the ligature in half if your cursor is in the middle of it which feels a little weird to me
pfg_··on Ghostty 1.0
Lower inout latency can make something feel faster. I haven't measured it but it's possible that's why with ghostty
pfg_··on CRT Simulation in a GPU Shader, Looks Better Than Black Frame Insertion
ios limits browser framerate by default, you can try going to settings > apps > safari > advanced > feature flags > disable "prefer page rendering near 60hz" and see if that has any effect. you can test by going to testufo and seeing if it gets the right framerate.
pfg_··on Type-erased generic functions for C: A modest non-proposal

    fn genericReduceTypeErased(
        size: usize,
        total: [*]u8,
        list: []const u8,
        reducer: *const fn(total: [*]u8, current: [*]const u8) callconv(.C) void,
    ) void {
        for(0..@divExact(list.len, size)) |i| {
            const itm = &list[i \* size];
            reducer(total, @ptrCast(itm));
        }
    }

    inline fn genericReduce(
        comptime T: type,
        total: *T,
        list: []const T,
        reducer: *const fn(total: *T, current: *const T) callconv(.C) void,
    ) void {
        genericReduceTypeErased( @sizeOf(T), @ptrCast(total), std.mem.sliceAsBytes(list), @ptrCast(reducer) );
    }
The proposal is basically syntax sugar for making a typed version of the first function in C
