peter-fogg··on When male CEOs have daughters, relative pay for women at their firms goes up
What's more, it seems that a small wage increase (say, for the next hire after a CEO's child is born) could have an outsize effect on average pay at the company.
peter-fogg··on How much information can you convey with a 1 bit interface?
Knowing some information theory should tell us that the answer is precisely one bit. Is there a law like Betteridge's for articles where the headline answers its own question?
peter-fogg··on Should String Be An Abstract Class?
This reminds me quite a bit of this article: http://blog.moertel.com/posts/2006-10-18-a-type-based-soluti..., although Haskell's type system is likely much better for expressing this sort of constraint.
peter-fogg··on Functional Programming in 5 Minutes
I think the title is a bit misleading. Perhaps "a quick explanation of one common feature of functional languages in five minutes" would be more appropriate?
peter-fogg··on Show HN: Remove backgrounds from images online
Any chance of source code, or at least a detailed post explaining the algorithms behind this?
peter-fogg··on Explosions near Boston Marathon finish line
I'm sure "the Muslims" all get together, all 1.5 billion of them, to discuss their next bombing target. Please distinguish between a small group of violent extremists and a major world religion.
peter-fogg··on Popsicolor 1.0—By the Numbers
Anyone have any idea what sort of algorithm would be used to convert the photos? It's a really great look; I'd love to play around with that a bit.
peter-fogg··on List out of Lambda
It actually can have some benefits -- a language without any unbounded loops or recursion isn't Turing-complete, but you do get a static guarantee of termination. NASA, for example, writes much of their C code only with bounded recursion. So they can't compute some things, but they can be sure that the Mars lander never gets stuck in an infinite loop.
peter-fogg··on Chess CAPTCHA
I'd say that the next step would be a CAPTCHA for Go -- creating an efficient Go player is still an open problem, and we could crowdsource the AI research to spammers!
peter-fogg··on A Language Without Conditionals
You'll find that they are integers, though:

>>> isinstance(True, int)

True

>>> bool.__mro__

(<type 'bool'>, <type 'int'>, <type 'object'>)

Although they aren't literally the same object, 1 == True does evaluate to True.

peter-fogg··on Show HN: turtle: a simple Clojure library for shell commands
OP here -- this is my first real open-source library, and I'm newish to Clojure. Any criticism is very much welcomed.

This is somewhat inspired by https://github.com/amoffat/sh/, although Clojure macros make this quite a bit easier.
