This is more akin to having a fake passport and pretending you're not American when asked.
pesus··on Google changes its search box
It somehow seems to interpret whatever sources it's grepping as the exact opposite of what those sources say fairly often. I've lost track of how many times I've clicked on the sources it cites, and every single one is in agreement, but the AI claims the opposite.

This is the cursory knowledge I'm referring to - it leaves out extremely pertinent details. The Civil Rights Act did not pass until multiple days of rioting following the assassination of MLK.

The peaceful protestors were also only one side of the coin. Their impact relied on being an alternative to the other side, which was not peaceful.

Should also be noted that many people buying into this belief system have connections to Y Combinator.

> You only need a cursory knowledge of the late 60s and early 70s to know that political violence rarely achieves its aims

Maybe cursory knowledge isn't enough, actually. The Civil Rights Act was ultimately only passed because of political violence. As another commenter said, the literal founding of the country was based on political violence.

People will downvote you because the idea of violence shocks and scares them, but if you steal people's future and strip them of any real (peaceful) options to change things, it becomes inevitable some of them will try to fight back with what few options they do have left.

Related: productivity has greatly increased over the last ~75 years, but wages have not increased anywhere near the same amount[0]. There is no reason for anyone besides CEOs (or similar positions) to care about productivity.

I'd love for everyone justifying and hand waving the suffering of others to quit their jobs, give up their assets, and join in on the suffering. If it's really worth it for the "increased productivity", they should have no problem doing so. After all, they'll be much better off in the end, right?
pesus··on Elon Musk has lost his lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI
Is that what we're calling allowing CSAM and promoting white supremacist rhetoric?
pesus··on I'm a Normie. Can Normies Vibe Code?
They are not really accomplishing anything, though. They're not actually building anything. Meeting their needs is one thing, but we don't need to pretend like they're overcoming some insurmountable obstacle.

Beyond that, an accomplishment ceases to be one if you don't actually do anything. It's not an accomplishment if I go buy a bag of chips and eat it, even if my hunger is sated a bit.

People learning how to do things is not gatekeeping. It seems that word has lost all meaning. This person still did not actually create anything.

If you have internet access, there was never any "gatekeeping". There have been free resources to learn web development for ages. Someone not wanting to put in the effort to learn to do something is not being "gatekept", they're just choosing not to learn to do something.

pesus··on Americans Are Smashing Flock Cameras
I don't think the VCs would be very happy about it.

They at least pretended not to be. In hindsight, it looks a lot more like a blatant lie...

Police having unlimited access to spy and creep on my children would give me the opposite of peace of mind.

I assume this comment means you strongly oppose every part of the American Revolution?
pesus··on Ask HN: When did computers stop being fun?
Ignoring any cultural dynamics that may be at play: maybe sometime after you started getting paid to do it. Personally, I find it enjoyable relative to other jobs, but I've lost most of the recreational enjoyment since I started making a living from it.
pesus··on Meta to receive $3.3B in tax breaks for its $10B Louisiana data center
I wonder if they actually believed it would bring more than a handful of permanent jobs or whether they're just saying to get their bribe.
pesus··on OpenAI is connecting ChatGPT to bank accounts via Plaid
Lovely! It's probably inevitable this will fuck over people eventually. Sam may as well prepare his next blog post ahead of time.
pesus··on A message from President Kornbluth about funding and the talent pipeline
I think there is a shortage of would-be leaders like that though, that's the problem. Or at least would be leaders that gained any real traction. The only other one in the past decade was Bernie.

Unfortunately for the past 3 elections, it essentially came down to the obviously untrustworthy "outsider" vs the ultimate establishment candidate. For a lot of people, it's as simple as that.

pesus··on In-person examinations at Princeton will be proctored starting July 1
Seems like it's had the opposite effect.
pesus··on Altman forced to confront claims at OpenAI trial that he's a prolific liar
Amazing how these are two of the most powerful men currently in existence and they bicker like children.
pesus··on Meta employees protest against mouse tracking tech at US offices
Fair point, but I'd have to see something more concrete than just them complaining about this situation specifically to believe they've actually seen the light. If they just continue to work there as usual and make no efforts to even find a job elsewhere, it doesn't seem like they've yet opened their eyes to the light.
pesus··on Meta employees protest against mouse tracking tech at US offices
This is really a "hoisted by your own petard" situation. I hope they don't think people are going to be sympathetic towards them when they're guilty of doing the same type of things (and far worse) to billions of people.
pesus··on Students boo commencement speaker after she calls AI next industrial revolution
For someone taking about basic logic, you're making quite the leap in logic by assuming they used LLMs to do every single bit of schoolwork.

How am I going to do any of that when I can't pay the bills and become homeless? That's what actually happens when you don't have jobs.
pesus··on People Hate AI Art
Anything critical of AI tends to get flagged/downvoted pretty quickly. I'm sure there are tons of bots doing it. Gotta promote AI so the rich can get richer, I guess.

pesus··on When everyone has AI and the company still learns nothing
The average dev probably doesn't have any significant amount of equity in their company. The stock price at my company going up just means my quarterly checks are going to be $4 instead of $3.
