pdwetz··on Why I Quit Being So Accommodating (1922)
He was very much inspired by Ayn Rand for that book; I can't find the article that quotes him on it, but the wikipedia article at least mentions the connection. Similar to Ayn Rand, I thought he was a bit over the top and heavy handed with his philosophy, but obviously that's just a subjective takeaway.

pdwetz··on The myth of the well-rounded scientist
I care; people with a variety of interests are more fun to talk to and work with. Those interests need not align with my own. If anything, some variance makes for pleasant unplanned learning. Of course, I'm speaking of real interests that one might have; not things you might do just to pad a resume.
pdwetz··on US patent lawsuits now dominated by 'trolls'
I wish I had a link handy, but the massive lawsuits firing back and forth between phone tech companies (apple, google, samsung, etc.) would argue against the Mutually Assured Destruction cold war theory for patents.
pdwetz··on Apple really needs two passwords, not one for everything
So long as there's an option available that doesn't require a smart phone (or worse, a specific OS), I agree completely. As a quick example, Blizzard has had an inexpensive device [1] in addition to phone apps.

pdwetz··on Gmail.com was down
Of course, separation of concerns can lead to swear words if not well thought out.
pdwetz··on The Ascent of the Patent Troll and the Devastating Consequences for Innovation
I think your best bet is to contact your representatives in the House and Senate and push for change (whether it's an overhaul of the current system or to try to throw it out entirely). It also doesn't hurt to talk to friends and family, particularly if they ask you about it.
pdwetz··on Your Company Culture Sucks, and it’s All Your Boss’s Fault
There's no shortage of life-sucking ways a bad fit can ruin you. Unfortunately, it can be rather subtle, a la the metaphor of putting a live frog in a pot and bringing it to boil.
pdwetz··on Icons for Web and Other Businesses
A common technique is to use a single image to limit the number of connections needed to grab them. If you want to pull them out (say, you only need one or two) any image program will let you crop (Paint.Net, Gimp, Photoshop, etc.)

pdwetz··on Google Apps Disabled My Domain
Similar thing happened to me; it turns out someone else had somehow setup an account a couple years ago with my domain (I've owned it since 2000 or so). I was able to get control of the google apps settings for it (they give a couple options, such as adding a DNS entry). However, it was useless because the previous person had set it up in Russian and I couldn't find a way to change it.
pdwetz··on Github redesigns Profiles
But not everything can be in open view of the public; it'd be nice to mention closed source projects you've worked on as well.
pdwetz··on Am I An Outlier, Or Are Apple Products No Longer Easy To Use?
On Windows, Foobar2000 handles my 77+ GB collection with no problems. It's very lightweight and has many add-on/UI tweaking options.
pdwetz··on So, That’s It For Thunderbird
No, it's not just you. I've had an unhappy experience with the spam filters (with a normal Thunderbird install) for years now. It seems to miss things that are obviously spam (to a human); thankfully I haven't had too many false-positives... that I've caught, at least.
pdwetz··on Yahoo proves that Silicon Valley is no different to Hollywood
"Patent law like Copyright law has become completely impractical in its current form"

While I agree patents for software are impractical (to put it lightly), I don't follow what that has to do with copyright. They're two very different things and I haven't seen many issues with copyright for code (now, copyright extensions by lawmakers/treaties to avoid works hitting the public domain... that's another story).

pdwetz··on The Sun is Setting on Rails-style MVC Frameworks
Sort of funny; as soon as I hit a new site that requires javascript, I often run away! But of course that's my problem; I get why user preference would get in the way of your clean implementation. :)
pdwetz··on .NET: So long and thanks for all the fish
The image in the link sums it up ("...all without writing a single line of code!", which I've heard personally in Microsoft events). It's not that the languages or the framework lack advanced features, it's that Microsoft/MVP's constantly tote the "beginner" features. I find C# to be very fun to code in... so long as you avoid anything that the tool will do (or only the tool can do) for you.
