pdwetz··on The Strange Disappearance of Cooperation in America (2013)
I'm not sure I follow his thought process on why "through the growth of individualism and personal experience that makes cooperation impossible." On a simple personal level, I'm for individualism and cooperation, so I'm not seeing the inherent conflict. Perhaps it's a matter of definitions?
pdwetz··on Lab hidden inside a famous monument
Same! I really need to read up on the actual history a bit more, as it was a golden age of really cool (and bizarre) things happening.

Full stack dev, but don't have issues with having a role that focuses more on front end or server.
pdwetz··on Ask HN: What books are you currently reading?
Surely You're Joking, Mr. Feynman!

Edited biographical anecdotes based on taped conversations. If you've enjoyed any of his videos, it's hard to read and not hear his voice telling the stories. I'm about a quarter the way through and am enjoying it so far.

SEEKING WORK - Remote/Westchester, NY Area

I can prototype new ideas, research technologies/trends, extend/maintain an existing system, or quickly build out a one-off microsite. I can work solo or in teams with equal ease. I'm a full stack programmer primarily using C# (standard or .net core) for backend work, along with PHP for creating custom WordPress and WooCommerce plugins/themes. Many years of experience with jquery, bootstrap, etc., along with recent experience with Vue.

I'm guessing enough people have access to email via their phones to spread the word?

pdwetz··on The End of IKVM.NET
They mentioned .Net 3.5, which is ancient by modern programming standards; if I had to guess, the general direction towards generics, dynamic, and functional support? But take that with a huge grain of salt. This post is from a library author, so their opinion is probably going to vary a lot with application developers (especially those of us who never did much with Mono, but are utilizing Core already in production with Linux).
pdwetz··on Microsoft earnings blow past estimates in every category, beats Street
I've never had it modify an opened file without me explicitly saving it.

pdwetz··on Ash Trees Could Disappear
Don't forget the american chestnut, which was wiped out by a blight at the start of the previous century.
pdwetz··on Why Electric Cars Will Be Here Sooner Than You Think
Unless you renting and don't have access to a plug. Or want to go on a weekend trip. Electric is interesting, but nothing more as a result for me personally.
pdwetz··on Amazon Vehicles
Cheaper insurance? I don't follow the logic for that one. If you have an older car you don't need full coverage = less out of pocket.
pdwetz··on Can Artificial Intelligence Be Ethical?
The primary concern being that laws are by no means ethical. The easiest example is slavery in the US Constitution.
pdwetz··on iTunes Has Slowly Destroyed My Will to Collect Music
They also have an API that you can use if you're programmatically inclined to automate the process. It does have limits, so be mindful of including delays between requests.

pdwetz··on Geologists Find Clues In Crater Left By Dinosaur-Killing Asteroid
The novel Seveneves brings a similar (actually, far worse) event in a modern environment. Both a fun and nightmarish thought exercise.

pdwetz··on What Does It Take to Be a ‘Best-Selling Author’? $3 and 5 Minutes
A local wine shop near me had hand written notes on their wines. The owner noticed that when the note said "delicious!" it was more likely to be purchased. So now all of the wines are labeled as such. No word on overall sales since then.

pdwetz··on Users Rationally Rejecting Security Advice (2009)
I get what you're saying, but living in a sketchy cell reception area makes me cringe at the thought of requiring SMS (let alone security concerns surrounding SMS as others have already mentioned). A mobile app instead solves it as near as I can tell... assuming you're okay with requiring a mobile device.
pdwetz··on Brisket – A new single-page application framework
A little misleading since most of the non-article content (e.g. javascript, CSS) is cached locally by your browser. You can also utilize AJAX to have responsive user interactions as needed.

pdwetz··on Why Broken Sleep Is a Golden Time for Creativity
As the article mentions, the best route I've found is through either working for yourself or freelancing. Other than that, it's almost the luck of the draw, as corporate rules/guidelines seem to vary over time (as do bosses).
pdwetz··on Drawbridge
"Docker for Windows" is what hit my mind while reading it. Worth noting it's from MS research, so it doesn't mean you'll see it as is (if at all).
pdwetz··on Static Site Generators
You can use third party tools for both search (e.g. google site search) and comments (e.g. discus). Of course, if you want to customize things further with user-supplied content, at some point you'll need a dynamic backend.
