pbkhrv··on One of the FBI’s Major Claims in the iPhone Case Is Fraudulent
Wasn't a typo, I did mean "millions", see my comment above.

for passcode, iPhone supports 4-Digit numeric code (10k combinations), 6-Digit numeric code (1 million combinations), "custom numeric code" (arbitrary length, millions of combinations), or "custom alphanumeric code" (arbitrary length, millions of combinations)

How practical is it to remove-restore-replace the NAND chip every 10 tries if you have to search through millions of combinations?

pbkhrv··on Beijing is banning all foreign media from publishing online in China
This might be one of the things they are doing to prepare for a wave of negative news about the state of their economy.
pbkhrv··on India bans discriminatory pricing based on source/destination/app/content
I see it as being more complicated than that.

Quoting wikipedia on "Free market" [1], "A free market is a market economy system ... in which the laws and forces of supply and demand are free from any intervention by a government, price-setting monopoly, or other authority."

One can argue that programs like Facebook's "Free Basics" that just got banned [2] are a "price-setting monopoly". And now that the ban is in place, you have more "intervention by a government". That looks to me like India didn't really have "free market" for internet services before this ruling either.

This would go great with a lightweight ClojureScript-based DSL to replace all those 'something, something -> something' "method" strings.
pbkhrv··on Ask HN: How do you version control your microservices?
This sounds like a constraint satisfaction problem. If you want to go all hardcore on this (and willing to pay the complexity price), then you can devise a system that can, on every new build of every new service, try to find the optimal combination of service versions that "work together nicely". Here are some data points that you'd need to implement this:

- What other services each service depends on

- What previously released versions of services worked with what versions of dependecies

- Ability to automatically test new versions of each service against its dependencies

Then you plug all that in to a solver that runs on every build, and voila, you have your Microservice Dependency Constraint Satisfaction Manager Machine™. If you do go this route, it would make for a great open-source project.
