pbiggar··on Microsoft blocks emails that contain 'Palestine' after employee protests
Surely you fight it by any means necessary? It's a genocide! Microsoft's tools and servers and people were involved in killing way over 60,000 people (and plausibly 300,000). I don't know how anyone could sit idly by in that situation.
pbiggar··on Microsoft blocks emails that contain 'Palestine' after employee protests
I would argue that if your employer is helping a genocide, it's everyone's responsibility to fight it.
pbiggar··on Microsoft blocks emails that contain 'Palestine' after employee protests
Microsoft is having a really bad time of it recently. Each of the 3 days of their Build conference was disrupted by protests of their involvement in the genocide.

They got Satya's keynote: https://x.com/NoAz4Apartheid/status/1924512658587263410

In the last one, during a security presentation, the presenter accidentally leaked private information as a result: https://www.theverge.com/news/671373/microsoft-ai-security-c...

pbiggar··on Jury orders NSO to pay $167M for hacking WhatsApp users
If you're going to contradict someone making a claim ("Because it seems like it's barely in the hundreds"), then it is their responsibility to back it up.

I work on this area and spend a reasonable amount of time staying up to date. I made my claim - I have seen extremely limited news reports about Israeli protests that center the genocide. Indeed, these reports are extremely new and feature silent protests with several hundred protestors holding up pictures of Israeli kids. Now I could have led with that, but it's not my responsibility to spend my precious time informing people about stuff they could look up themselves online.

How many are currently protesting the genocide? Because it seems like it's barely in the hundreds
pbiggar··on The group chats that changed America
Two other sets of powerful people in group chats doing bad things:

pbiggar··on The group chats that changed America
The fact that these group chats were behind the Chesa Boudin recall campaign should surprise no-one.
pbiggar··on The group chats that changed America
pg has been yelling about the Campus Left's Desire for Cancellation for years and years (I want to say since 2011?). It's been very frustrating to watch because lots of us identified this as right wing propaganda that (imo) pg was unwittingly participating in.
pbiggar··on Apparently Bluesky has one centralized service, the "relay"
LinkedIn's approach has been to segregate pro-Palestinian content to a bubble where it's not shown to people outside it. Now, that is believed to be because they are deliberately trying to limit pro-Palestinian liberation content due to the extremely pro-apartheid and pro-occupation beliefs of their CPO Tomer Cohen, but it's none the less pretty effective.
pbiggar··on Apparently Bluesky has one centralized service, the "relay"
I used to not care about centralized or decentralized services, I just wanted to best product.

Now I see how each of the major social media networks has been involved in censorship of Israel's genocide in Palestine (including btw HN), it makes me realize how important decentralization is.

I think a lot of Americans (and other countries who have essentially handed over their media to US social media companies) are going to learn same lessons soon, as Trump starts to leverage the existing censorship tools more broadly.

pbiggar··on Apple and Meta fined millions for breaching EU law
Actually, the problem the US had with Tiktok that was it did not censor people from talking about Palestine

pbiggar··on [dead]
Really, anyone working at any of the companies that are enabling or supporting ISrael's war on the people of Gaza are going to face this sooner or later. We remember the role of IBM and Hugo Boss and Volkswagon in the holocaust - we are certainly going to remember that Microsoft employees worked in the same room as the Israeli army to build some of the tools that ran the genocide. And we also know about the role of Google, Amazon, Palentir, Meta, LinkedIn, etc.
pbiggar··on Leaked data reveals Israeli govt campaign to remove pro-Palestine posts on Meta
Similarly, pro-Palestine content on HN is highly suppressed.
pbiggar··on Leaked data reveals Israeli govt campaign to remove pro-Palestine posts on Meta
This is part of the trick that israel is trying to pull. Suppose you support Palestine liberation from Israel's violent occupation and apartheid, as does most of the world. Well, so does Hamas, so therefore you support Hamas' goals and are evil and a terrorist.

To apply this in another context, I agree with Trump on very little, but I do agree that Daylight Savings should be gotten rid of. So am I pro-Trump? No, that's absurd.

Or if you are right wing in the US and believe that the US is the land of the free and home of the brave, well, so does Hilary Clinton. Are you pro-Clinton?

The connection is absurd, but it parrotted daily by US politicians and US media.

pbiggar··on Harvard's response to federal government letter demanding changes
I've visited a handful of encampments. Super peaceful, mostly kids educating each other about colonialism and the history of Israel's occupation and apartheid.

If you're looking for violence, the attacks on the Palestine encampments at UCLA were by far the most horrific violence on campus of the last year, and that was funded by Jonathan Greenblatt (CEO of the ADL, which is a racist org)

There is work you can do to help end Apple's complicity (though Microsoft is directly participating in the genocide) - you can find the folks working on Apple here: https://applesagainstapartheid.com/
pbiggar··on Gazans tell BBC of torture in Israeli detention
Israel has long used torture against Palestinian civilians. Some examples.

pbiggar··on Rippling sues Deel over spying

pbiggar··on Dutch Parliament: Time to ditch US tech for homegrown options
100%! Between US tech surveilling the population, selling their data to data brokers, controlling what content they see, and surveilling even their customers customers, this has to happen extremely quickly.

The end goal has to be that EU businesses should be able to easily ensure that their customers' data is never accessible to US companies. This is incredibly challenging at the moment due to SaaS - the amount of subprocessors that a company uses, and then transitively uses, makes it impossible at the moment imo.

Tight networks largely. THey've invested heavily into having these "assets" in US tech companies, and so pro-Israel folks in the US work hard to acquire them in.

This is the largest transfer of Israeli intelligence operatives into a US company in history. Y'all are in for a real bad time.
pbiggar··on Rippling sues Deel over spying
We use Plane.com, as they are one of the few companies that support hiring in Palestine. Deel doesn't even list Palestine on their countries page, which tells you a lot about their ethics.
pbiggar··on Rippling sues Deel over spying
Remember that Israeli companies, including Deel, are mostly founded by members of Unit 8200 who are literal spies. These folks have their formative technical experience being spying on Palestinians in order to keep the occupation going.

Simple rule of thumb is never trust an Israeli company with your data or your customers' data.

pbiggar··on Moving away from US cloud services
At Tech for Palestine, we've been investigating moving off many US based cloud services, with the intent of providing training, guidance, etc, for the broad population on how to do it and where to go.

Our main conclusion so far is that many of the platforms that we look at, such as Signal or Protonmail, need serious UX improvements before they can be used by any serious chunk of the population (though for a HN audience, they can mostly put up with it).

Oh it is an occupation. Here is an Amnesty report from 2017 on the topic. https://www.amnesty.org/en/latest/campaigns/2017/06/israel-o...

Good job claiming blood libel: I have never spoken about judaism, only about Israel' evil and brutal war crimes, occupation, and genocide.
