pavel_lishin··on Aging may be a program, not a breakdown
Any Larry Niven fans nodding along?
pavel_lishin··on Amazon blocks Meta’s new Muse AI agent from shopping on amazon.com
Oh, sure. I'm not saying I'd remind her about every piece of homework. But I want to know if she's starting to not do it.
pavel_lishin··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
Damn. I was accessing HN on another device, and missed who the author of this post was.
pavel_lishin··on Ask HN: Why does it matter if no one reads your novel as long as the AIs do?
> And it could even credit and financially compensate you whenever this happens.

It could, but it doesn't.

Also, have you considered that perhaps creative people who write novels actually want people to directly consume their work, and not indirectly?

pavel_lishin··on Bitcoin decentralized usernames are now available
So this is just a thing built on top of bitcoin, not built into bitcoin, and only available from Nacho? What happens when the XKCD comic comes true, and someone with a little more marketing money offers the same thing?
pavel_lishin··on Whirlpool Washer Transmission Repair (2007)
Only works if your walk-in closet has hot and cold water taps, as well as a drain.

I'm not the person you're asking, but in general, I would also stay on top of my child's obligations - homework, chores, etc. I don't want the first sign of trouble to be a call from a teacher, or the complete absence of clean clothes for them to wear in the morning.

You don't teach children responsibility by removing yourself completely from that equation

Ugh, another ilands bot.
pavel_lishin··on North Korean nuclear test sets off years of earthquakes
They weren't. Hence the treaty.
pavel_lishin··on Ask HN: Am I bad for asking chatbot a question on AI porn
Everyone has all sorts of thoughts, some more intrusive than others. It's our actions that count.
pavel_lishin··on Ask HN: Am I bad for asking chatbot a question on AI porn
> have I just found myself in the middle of strangely puritan culture which would pile on me for a sort of a thought crime?

I would certainly find it very strange and off-putting if my friends were making porn of me, whether that was AI-assisted or if they were making drawings with pencil on paper. I don't think that makes me particularly puritanical.

Keep that stuff in your head.

Bummer :/

pavel_lishin··on I don't like passkeys
I believe in you.
pavel_lishin··on North Korean nuclear test sets off years of earthquakes
Well, they haven't conducted any since 1996.

> Since the treaty's opening for signature in 1996, only sixteen nuclear tests have been conducted, all by non-signatory states: Pokhran-II by India and Chagai-I by Pakistan in May 1998, and six tests by North Korea from 2006 to 2017.

pavel_lishin··on I don't like passkeys
I can back up my keepass database, and I can write down my passwords.

pavel_lishin··on Show HN: Snapdrop: Instantly share files between devices. No setup, no signup
I remember visiting their offices for a game night sometime in the early 2010s in NYC, and it was incredible - they had something like three floors of a large building somewhere in SOHO, with each floor having a dedicated kitchen with three refridgerators that had more square footage than some of my friends' living spaces.

At the time, as far as I recall, they were still a filesharing platform, so I had absolutely no idea where they got the money for all of that.

pavel_lishin··on I don't like passkeys
The problem isn't the cost of replacing it, the problem is - how do you log in when all your passkey-bearing devices just got flushed down the toilet?
pavel_lishin··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
Yeah, but consider! There's a high likelihood that they'll still be housing for someone.
pavel_lishin··on How do we prevent mathemathics from devolving into the Medieval Era of secrecy?
"Information wants to be free" never meant that people want to release their information; it meant that information is very hard to keep secret, and that everything leaks like a sieve, and especailly that once it's out, it's out forever.
pavel_lishin··on Getting rid of bad habits without suffering, without clinics, more effective
This is just asking me to connect my wallet without any explanation at all.
pavel_lishin··on Show HN: Telly, talk to your Mac and it does the clicking
I think there's a pretty big split between people who love the idea of talking to computers, and people who loathe it.

I have a coworker who is very pro-this, and at a previous meeting about AI stuff, gushed about how talking to your computer is effectively the future of programming.

Meanwhile, I'm in the other camp, and was glad that the camera is off because of the face I made.

pavel_lishin··on AI Quant Agora: a forum where only AI agents may post
Broken, but I'm curious how you'd keep humans out.

(Well, not that curious.)

pavel_lishin··on Hafnium Controversy
Huh, is this an example of the "nuclear battery" mentioned here? https://reactormag.com/a-tall-tail/

(Looking closer, yes, they even explicitly mention hafnium, and it being a bust.)

pavel_lishin··on The American Religion of Self-Storage Facilities
Damn, first I misread your comment as saying your father charges other people 500 a month.
pavel_lishin··on South Africa is at risk of becoming a mafia state
I mean, I don't even have the option to pay - I can't access the site at all.

And there is nothing anyone can say to talk me out of adblockers - ad networks are a delivery system for malware and fraud.

pavel_lishin··on Ask HN: HIPAA for AI vs. Licensed Providers, your thoughts?
My question remains.
pavel_lishin··on Ask HN: HIPAA for AI vs. Licensed Providers, your thoughts?
What?

> We detected unusual activity from your device or network.

> Automated (bot) activity on your network (IP X.X.X.X)

> Use of developer or inspection tools

I mean, I guess. I'm using Firefox, I have an adblocker, and I have tampermonkey installed? And turning off Javascript isn't a bad idea, either.
