paulbgd··on 1B nested loop iterations
It’s impressive but even more interesting, it could still be faster! Java is JIT at #3, so theoretically any of these languages could get there.
paulbgd··on Yes, you can play Duck Hunt without a television (but I can't)
That's true, but crts are basically free and plug and play while looking extra crispy. I think if you're okay spending a lot more to get an equivalent setup those are good options, but harder to recommend.

There might not be many new games, but for the old games getting a used crt is free and the consoles are cheap too! I’ve been playing through the ps2 light gun games and it really does feel like you’ve got an arcade at home.
paulbgd··on Sound-suppressing silk can create quiet spaces
I’m looking up photos of restaurants 40+ years ago and struggling to find any obvious acoustic differences in their designs (I do notice carpet seems more prominent?) Do you have any examples of what they used to do better?
paulbgd··on Elixir at Ramp
Yes, although iirc we prefer people in similar timezones.

I’m not sure why, but the internship role seems to be the only one listed that has an accurate list of our tech: https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/ramp/29663a4b-c457-4a38-bbdf-069f18...

The article goes into a little more detail too, we haven’t significantly changed anything in the last 2 years.

Yep it’s still being used as our card authorizer service! The features have expanded, although the primary backend monolith is still in python.
paulbgd··on Turbopack, the successor to Webpack
Vite isn’t tied to its internal tools that heavily, in theory they could switch to using turbopack internally if they wished.
