pastureofplenty··on Internet Archive: Security breach alert
Maybe this will make Google reconsider relying on them for cached versions of webpages.
pastureofplenty··on I don't want to spend my one precious life dealing with Google's AI search
I don't want to hear anything about AI either, especially if it takes an extra 3 seconds to load.
pastureofplenty··on The Grateful Dead's Wall of Sound (2019)
Web designers really, really need to stop putting light grey text on a white background. Good article though.
pastureofplenty··on SFMTA's train system running on floppy disks; city fears 'catastrophic failure'
JWZ doesn't like HN and doesn't want his site being linked to on here so your URL redirects to a crude image.
pastureofplenty··on Baltimore's Key Bridge struck by cargo ship, collapses
There used to be two really tall redwoods in the beast bay that were used as Navigation Trees to avoid a submerged rock in SF bay, that later had to be blown up after the trees were felled.

pastureofplenty··on Mexico got rid of daylight saving time. Should the U.S. end it, too?
Someone, perhaps Mark Twain, once said that daylight saving time is like cutting off your head and standing on it to make yourself taller.
pastureofplenty··on Tire falls off United plane after takeoff from SFO
News you love to see when you're flying out of SFO in a couple weeks.
pastureofplenty··on Ask HN: Did you encounter any leap year bugs today?
Yes, I have a bot that posts daily San Francisco weather records to Mastodon. It did not post as scheduled today. This is because I am looking at all the high temperatures, low temperatures, and precipitation on today's date from 1875 (about as far back as there are digitized weather records I can work with) to the present. Since there was no such date as February 29, 1875 it is throwing an error.
pastureofplenty··on Let Everybody Sing (2016)
Another thing that makes Sacred Harp sound "weird" is that it eschews traditional voice-leading rules and therefore has no prohibitions on parallel fifths, fourths, or octaves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Voice_leading#Common-practice_...
pastureofplenty··on Apollo calls AI a 'bubble' worse than even the dotcom era
It feels like AI is becoming a buzzword more and more divorced from its original meaning. Your car's automatic transmission would count as AI according to some of the colloquial uses I've seen.
pastureofplenty··on My PHP Problems
I've been working with PHP for the last couple months or so for the first time in over a decade. I can't say I've enjoyed it. Feels very tedious always having to look up, say, whether the needle comes first or the haystack in a list of arguments. But it runs pretty darn fast, I'll give it that.
