pastaking··on Ask HN: How do you tackle back-pain?
Hey I'm a 24yr developer as well and I used to have really terrible lower back pain from sitting too long. My worst was when I would feel this extremely sharp pain in my lower back when I thrust my hip in a certain way. The pain is so quick and intense it would paralyze me for a split second. I never went to the doctor to check it out, and fortunately now (6 months later) that pain is pretty much all gone. I got rid of it pretty much by stretching:

1. Simply sit up straight, it stretches your lower back the right way.

2. Get into pushup position and while keeping your body straight, try to reach forward as much as possible.

3. Lay on the floor belly down, lift your legs and chest off the ground, bind your hands behind your back and reach them as far back as possible. I found this great for temporarily relieving pain.

4. Do pullups: or if you can't do one, get on a bar and let your legs dangle and feel your back stretching out. This one feels so good.

Good luck!

pastaking··on Show HN: Contacts finds email addresses
Hey this is pretty cool! I'll find this useful soon.
pastaking··on Automated cold e-mails for sales people?
I made something like this a while back, but after some research I found that it's illegal to send unsolicited emails and you could be fined by the FTC. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's ok to open source the code so people can use it at their own discretion, but making it into an actual product would run into legal troubles?
pastaking··on Ask HN: How can I learn to architect a production web app?
I'd like to know as well. Specifically, other than the actual web app, what proven tools do people use to monitor their service & manage their organization?
pastaking··on Startup advice
20. Hire people that you could describe as animals.

Maybe he means you can describe each person as an animal according to his or her personality. People with strong personality can be easily associated with some kind of animal, so this advice basically guides you to hire an interesting group of people.

pastaking··on Oculus Rift co-founder killed by gang trying to escape police
I usually don't feel anything when I hear of a innocent person dying on the news, but maybe because he's involved in tech, I too am very angry.

Why does the police have to chase anyway? Why can't they just identify the car and silently follow it until it stops. Damn it.

pastaking··on The Three Kinds of Laziness
The third kind of laziness is a contagious type of procrastination that eats away at you slowly from the inside. You won't know what happened until one day you realize that you're hollow.

I realized exactly that a few years ago (when I got into a car accident) but I didn't relate it to laziness. It's so important to have the courage to stop beating around the bush, especially when it comes to getting what you want out of life.

Great post! Now I'm intrigued by buddhism.

pastaking··on Inside a Completely Transparent Company
Very cool. Can someone at Buffer share their formula for salary and equity?

It sounds like a stable system, and I'm sure many of us would find it really helpful.

pastaking··on Show HN: Fliple - iOS Contacts with Metro UI
I can't add contacts from my Gmail account to a group, and a support article says there's no fix to this unless I recreate the contact locally.

Sorry, that's way too much work. The app looks really nice, but if I can't import my contacts, it's useless to me.

Just uninstalled.

pastaking··on The hypocrisy in Silicon Valley's big talk on innovation
Just like Levchin, we can find this article inspiring, but neither has hard numbers to back up their claim. Sure, we see a trend that there are a lot of innovations in the ways we communicate, share, and connect, but does that necessarily mean we're lacking "deep" technological innovation?

Personally I think web & mobile startups are getting easier to create so more people are becoming entrepreneurs to take advantage of that; the pie is getting bigger. I believe there are still plenty of "deep" tech innovators out there along with investors who believe in them.

Perhaps these "deep" tech innovators don't get much media coverage because they don't need it, therefore we don't usually hear about them.

pastaking··on How I manage 40 people remotely
We've built a tool called TeamSnippets.com to help keep teams in sync - I believe it works extra well for remote teams.

On an interval you like, we send out an email to each team member reminding them to write a status update of what they've been working on. Everyone's status updates are gathered into a summary email sent out the next day.

We're in our free beta right now and would love some feedback. Give us a try at http://TeamSnippets.com

pastaking··on Chinese Physicists Smash Distance Record For Teleportation
Understood. So this means we can create awesome walkie talkies.
pastaking··on Chinese Physicists Smash Distance Record For Teleportation
I'm missing something. If it's teleportation, why does glass or air currents interfere with transmission? It shouldn't matter what's in the way, right?
pastaking··on Light Table - a new IDE concept
This is exciting! We wouldn't be coding the same way in 50 years - I hope what we do now will be compared to punch cards of early computing by then.
pastaking··on Death to MS Word
I consider Word to be one of the greatest programs on Windows. It has always did well what it was meant to do - a noob friendly professional publishing tool.

Heck, I use it on my Mac as well. A major flaw mentioned in this article (to edit web documents in word) is like editing vector graphics in Photoshop - it wasn't built for that.

pastaking··on Do you host a web server at home?
I'd be interested to find out how to host from home. All these VPSs are getting expensive and I've noticed most of my side projects don't need all that.
pastaking··on I learned Node.js and made a site for my funny pictures collection

pastaking··on Why Google isn’t worried about Android revenue
… revenue Google has earned from Android since its launch in 2008: $550 million … [Google's] mobile revenue in general, which is on a $2.5 billion annual pace driven mostly by mobile searches on iOS devices and in-app advertising … Android was a defensive move on Google’s part, and one that wasn’t primarily motivated by desire for revenue or profit. … Android represents mobile competition

Quoted from the article, that pretty much sums it up.
