parmesan··on My wonderful world of macOS
Well, you collect more and more tools to simplify your life and solve repetitive tasks during years of usage. Sooner or later it's going to be a looong list of utilities.
parmesan··on Ask HN: Have anyone traveled the world while working as a freelancer?
I freelanced for a while in Australia, it was a wonderful time. Worked at a startup, and a larger app agency. The pay was WAY better than here in Sweden, also the much lower taxes did wonders for my economy.

I had a great plan, just got a temporary working visa, booked a flight and a crappy inn in the middle of Sydney. A week after me and my partner arrived at Sydney I started looking for some short 1-3 months contracts and got a few (20+) opportunities. I did a couple of interviews and found a nice startup that had a good vibe, and that wasn't _cheap_. Did a little bit of work, a lot of travelling and had a great time throughout.

I'd say go for it, the worst thing that can happen is that you go back home with the feeling that you appreciate your home a LOT more!

parmesan··on Atom 1.18 released
I switched back to Sublime after a while, Atom was so slow to start, at least when I first tried it out in ~2014 (2015?). Sublime loads in like 100ms on all my machines.

I'm also the vim kind tho, but when I browse large datasets and dumps I use Sublime.

Generally I think you're right, but tbh you don't need to be a MIT class A mathematician physician master to become a great systems engineer. Scala, Rust, Kotlin etc has (to me) the same learning curve as Java and I think most system devs will be able to adopt the languages if they wish to do so.
parmesan··on How Torch broke ls and made me vulnerable
Indeed, first thing alert the devs and let them sort it out..

I like this one: http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO2&Sect2=...

"[...] approaches for preventing an accidental termination of a phone call session.". The patent actually covers the event of when a user:

1) is in a call

2) taps dismiss

3) phone decide to dismiss or continue because [wildcard] reason.

So the functionality in my Samsung that "decide" whether to ignore or continue when I tap dismiss with my chin is patented, cool.
