parineum··on Jensen Huang says AI distillation is 'competition.'
Because it's a nothing statement. Everything everyone says can be categorized that way.

The shareholder part is also not correct in they way it's being implied.

parineum··on SpaceX's Starship launching to orbit for first time ever today
Imagine re-useable missiles though...

/s because the Internet is crazy.

parineum··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
> You can’t scream “murder all the X” in a theatre

You actually can.

parineum··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
I'm against government building a scaffold to be able to block selective parts of the Internet because the block list always expands and never retracts.
parineum··on Meta Blocks President Lula's Facebook Page, Campaign Ads 2 Weeks from Election
donating money to the president and their party is something nearly every national corporation does. Using their corporate power to do political favors is not. those are two very different things.
parineum··on OpenAI Feared "Optics" of what might appear on Hacker News
Didn't I just read an article about Tesla employees not wanting to train their robot replacements?

> Obviously it's hard to predict the opinions of the dead

So we shouldn't.

parineum··on How to keep enjoying programming in a world of LLMs
But what are you throwing at it?

I've thrown a 20 year old .net 4.8 codebase that's a mixture of proprietary sdks and legacy code and LLMs choke. Building some greenfield pieces for the same application works great so far though.

I've also made some plugins for some hobby software with very limited viewing of source code that I'm very happy with.

parineum··on How I changed teaching after AI managed to do all my homework assignments
If we're talking higher ed., expell students that use LLMs to do their assignments for them. They obviously aren't there to learn and don't belong there.

> This is because we shield children too much from reality. If they had a fire under their ass that made them realize if they don't study well, they will forever be locked into flipping burgers or being homeless, most of them would move their assess.

This seems pretty inaccurate to me at just about every turn.

The fire under their asses is for grades and a degree because they've erroneously been told they need one or else they'll be flipping burgers.

It's such a cliche thing to say but cheating at school cheats yourself of the education you could be getting but, since that's not what most people are there for, they cheat. They are there because they've been told that they need a degree to make a decent living and the degree doesn't technically require learning.

parineum··on Plunging test scores are a slow-moving catastrophe
Personal healthcare spending is estimated to have been 4.5T in 2024. [1] Total revenue was 4.9T that year. [2]

> The vast majority of our production comes from more and more highly automated tools.

That fewer and fewer people operate. Hence the people are more productive. Additionally, instead of everyone being unemployed, we just raise the standard of living and demand more stuff that employs just about everyone.

parineum··on Plunging test scores are a slow-moving catastrophe
Medicare is currently something like 14% of the budget and covers 20% of the population.
parineum··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
There is some allegations of intent. Maybe not "go hack hugging face" intent but a disregard for safety with the knowledge of this as a likely outcome. I'm not sure how that fits within the law.

It's not my argument so I can't say but I do think the FBI should be at least investigating if a crime happened. They might be or might already have, I don't know.

parineum··on OpenAI bots meddled with multiple US Government agency sites
Meddling is a super vague term that the press uses to let the readers assume the most when the least happens.
parineum··on Revealing the details of how OpenAI agents hacked Hugging Face
I think you're skipping over the (alleged) criminal element here. I think a lot of people are wondering why hacking is okay for OAI.

HF could certainly sue but why isn't the FBI investigating the hacking?

parineum··on One Month Without AI
You rarely find bugs if you rarely test the code.
parineum··on Gravity seems holographic. What does that mean for reality?
> That all the information needed to describe a 3D space can fit in a 2D space, like a hologram.

I'm not totally certain about this but I think you skipped over something important.

It's not that 3D space can be described by 2D space, it's that _our_ "3D" space appears to fit in 2D space because every time the universe puts too much information in the 3D space we get a black hole and a black hole is a 2D surface in 3D space.

parineum··on Zelensky says Russia has widened attacks to hit Ukraine's data centres
I think he'd gloat about how another war ended on his watch and take credit for it.
parineum··on Zelensky says Russia has widened attacks to hit Ukraine's data centres
"We're glad the war is over."

> Capital in the hands of the chinese state is different because it serves the interests of everyone collectively

Even the Uyghurs?

parineum··on Gravity seems holographic. What does that mean for reality?
Those claims are backwards.

Hawking found that energy/mass can escape but the information remains destroyed. You can't run a black hole backwards in time and reconstruct the matter that created it and hawking radiation bears no resemblance to anything that was ever beyond the horizon.

parineum··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
Grok didn't push any buttons. People did.
parineum··on U.S. appeals court upholds designation of Anthropic as supply chain risk
How is this coersion?

Is it coersion when people refuse to buy anything but free range chicken eggs?

DoD just refuses to buy a product. Anthropic just lost a customer because their product didn't fit the requirements of the customer.

parineum··on Two-tier encryption in the UK
The state is capital in China. Oppression in China serves Capital and the State because they are the same entity.
parineum··on California is chasing wealth that has feet
Everything the California government does has a negligible impact on my taxes. However, the sum of it is not negligible. I'd rather them not waste money because it's "negligible".
parineum··on Dutch governments builds alternative for Microsoft based on NixOS
> Looking at the 13 which rank higher than Microsoft - how many would you describe as treating their users/customers well?

Almost all of them.

> voting against their own interests

What you mean is voting against what you think their interests should be.

This phrase is incredibly condescending and undemocratic.
