If you meant buying online, the problem was solved long back.. https://www.irctc.co.in/

Believe me the website works and is used by millions..

Queues still remain long due to lack of computer literacy and reach of internet..

Side project, a small webapp, that would help me:

1. Learn Python, Django, HTML etc.

2. Track my yet-another-wake-up-early-attempt and (hopefully) motivate me.

pagade··on Bad Indian Programmers
Indian developer here. I think one point is missing here.

There are two categories of software development jobs in India: Service Based and Product Based.

Service Based - which means you are working in a org taking outsourcing projects (Cognizant, TCS etc).

Product Based - A product based org has set up its development center in India (like Google, Amazon etc).

You get better salary, better work, better environment, better decision making power in Product Based Orgs - which simply translates to this: better developers are present in Product Based Orgs.

I have seen Job Descriptions that said 'Only for developer working in a product organization'.

I intended to make some code check-in at work today as token of celebrating this day. But the task slipped. I should be able to do it by tomorrow evening though :)

'Date Display Type' under 'Settings' should have consistent sample date:

10/2/2013 [Numeric]

10/Dec/2013 [Short Month]

10/December/2013 [Long Month]

Probably there's a typo in first sample. Also DD > 12 helps unambiguously identify DD from MM.

How to I delete Objectives section? I am in 'Manage Sections' but how do I delete it?

Look at your TODO list and check if you can:

Eliminate - Is this really needed to be done? What if I just don't do it?

Delegate - Do I have to do it? Is it ok if someone else does it for me?

Automate - Will I have to do this again? If yes, can I automate it?

Thanks for sharing and kudos to you and your wife.

and those kind people each pitched in a few dollars to help people they'd never met before

That’s the best thing about anonymity in charity; you remain in debt – forever. And the best thing you could do in return is help those whom you don't know (or those who don't know you).

Under the font menu (next to 'Go' button) there is a small separator between 'Larger' and 'Reset' options. It does not have any label but acts like 'Larger' option and increases the font when clicked.

If it is just a separator it should not increase the font. Else it should have proper label.

Remember and remind - Hofstadter's Law: It always takes longer than you expect, even when you take into account Hofstadter's Law.[1]

Wow! Am I the only one reading this book? No comments so far about the book. I don't remember how I ended up reading this book for past an hour or so. I know Lisp so jumped on Part III after reading the Chapter 1. This really looks like a gem I have never heard of. Anyone already read this? Any comments? Not much in Amazon Reviews.

Thanks for sharing!

One (little cunning) advice I received to deal with 'battle of egos' was to introduce a third person, a third reviewer to break the tie. Ideally the person should be one to whom you both respect (due to authority or whatever) and are ready to take his/her word. Cunning part can be he/she should be the one you know will agree with your review comments/thoughts (which should be easy since you know your concerns are valid). This is assuming such battles are rare and people are open for genuine review comments.
