p1anecrazy··on Russian Military Satellite Appears to Be Stalking a New U.S. Spy Satellite
What kind of monitoring would be possible at a distance of 50 km between two satellites?
p1anecrazy··on Show HN: If VS Code had a data-centric IDE sibling, what would that look like?
Looks very promising! Are you planning to release it as an application?

p1anecrazy··on How Telegram Messenger circumvents Google Translate's API
People tend to forget that Whatsapp encryption was introduced years after Telegram’s secret chats. Now they are continuously bashed for no encryption by default, but their original proposition was “messenger done right” as compared to unencrypted Whatsapp and FB.
p1anecrazy··on Ask HN: Are most of us developers lying about how much work we do?
This kind of “background processing” was covered in detail in the infamous “Learning how to learn MOOC”. I would go further suggesting that for people unaware of this way of thought processing/problem solving (like OP?) peer pressure may bring something akin to impostor syndrom.

This doesn’t have to be a programmer only thing IMHO. If you spend 5 hours chilling and 3 executing and everybody is happy with your performance, it may be just your way to do things. If someone next to you does the same by coding 8 hour straight - its their style, and neither is better.

Can you please link to it? Can‘t find it on AppStore
p1anecrazy··on A dev built an chatbot so a man speak to his late fiancée. OpenAI shut it down
Surprised there is no mention of Replika that went the same path years ago to allow its creator chat with a dead friend.
p1anecrazy··on The lost tablet and secret documents: Clues pointing to a shadowy Russian army
It was actually Navalny who did that, not Ms. Ward
p1anecrazy··on The lost tablet and secret documents: Clues pointing to a shadowy Russian army
I think propaganda on both sides is “dehumanizing the enemy” as much as it can and the average Ivan/Dmytro is on the receiving end.
p1anecrazy··on BioNTech alone could lift German economy by 0.5% this year
If you read the article,

> [BioNTech] now expects to accrue 15.9 billion euros ($18.63 billion) in revenue from the vaccine this year <...> “Since BioNTech procures relatively few preliminary products from abroad, this is almost entirely domestic added value,” Dullien said. “So this has a direct impact on economic growth.”

p1anecrazy··on Two people killed in fiery Tesla crash with no one driving
True. However, this headline mentions the key detail of the tragedy.
p1anecrazy··on Ask HN: Would you go for a Covid shot not recommended in U.S. & your country?
I think I was chosen by accident. I called my doctor to confirm and they said to proceed. According to online trackers, currently its the 70-year-olds turn, and there is over ten million of them in Germany.
p1anecrazy··on Ask HN: Would you go for a Covid shot not recommended in U.S. & your country?
> Do that and then do Pfizer

Also I don’t think we are seeing multiple shots anytime soon in EU :(

p1anecrazy··on Ask HN: Would you go for a Covid shot not recommended in U.S. & your country?
It’s less extreme for me as a Russian citizen, as I have less legal hurdles. In all other aspects it is.

p1anecrazy··on Hurricane China: How to prepare

p1anecrazy··on Hurricane China: How to prepare
I was extremely put off by the racist rant at the beginning. Based on a multitude of personal experiences, I don’t think that Vietnamese, Spanish or Venesuelans are inherently cheating. Why trust the article if it begins with a doubtful accusation?
p1anecrazy··on Compound found in the hallucinogenic tea ayahuasca can grow new brain cells
There is none.
p1anecrazy··on Investigating the relationship between smartphone use and delay discounting
I strongly believe one day smartphones will have the same warning labels on them as cigarettes do.
p1anecrazy··on Google Photos will end its free unlimited storage in June 2021
I think in general Google is perceived not as a privacy-friendly company due to its ubiquitousness. Whether it is true does not matter much.
p1anecrazy··on Google Photos will end its free unlimited storage in June 2021
Wow. What a disappointment.

I started saving my photos with Google for two reasons: - I’m an iPhone user and didn’t want a single company to have access to all my assets, - it was free and this compensated for the discomfort of using a non-native app.

Without the second argument it makes total sense to look at other, more privacy-oriented providers. Since Apple tries to rebrand itself this way, I would expect more former customers to go there.

Mindfulness meditation in a nutshell.
p1anecrazy··on In Reversal, Twitter Is No Longer Blocking New York Post Article
Retracting a dubious decision is a good thing. What disappoints me though is that Twitter once again uses a lame explanation:

"A Twitter spokesman confirmed that the company would allow the link to be shared because the information had spread so widely across the internet that it could no longer be considered private."

p1anecrazy··on APT29 targets Covid-19 vaccine development
Russia is one of the countries with the highest number of coronavirus cases. Decades-long brain drain makes a development of its own vaccine impossible. Now state-employed hackers try to steal an already developed one to mass produce it for Russian population.
p1anecrazy··on Spain approves national minimum income scheme

p1anecrazy··on “Why Using WhatsApp Is Dangerous“
"In keeping with courtroom paperwork, the 4 used a comparatively unknown hacking trick to bind the victims’ Telegram accounts to their telephones.

Native media reported that the hackers used entry to the accounts to ship spam messages with malicious hyperlinks to customers’ contacts."

Good ol' phishing.
