That is just maths here working. Two systems combined always will have more states and inputs/outputs.
There is nothing to check here as it can be proven purely by maths.
Complex systems having more attack surface are obviously less secure.
They might be less interesting for attackers if they have to scan huge attack surface like IPv6 vs IPv4 but no one is claiming IPv6 network is more secure.
Worst things happen always when 2 or more systems are combined because each system might be simple on its own, yet a combination is always much more complex.
I would be set for the rest of my life if I got half a mill falling from sky today, I guess I could even make it work with 250k.
Currently I am pondering how absurd amount of money a billion of dollars is. When loads of people can only -earn and eat through/spend not save- $1 million; working their asses off for something like 20 years.
Running this would be nice but it still takes time and still there is no ROI for me.
Of course there will be people who find it useful but I am pretty much done with building knowledge bases or having todo lists.
Stuff that I need to do or remember - everything else if I forget nothing happens and it doesn’t impact my life or work.
Why do you need to spell it out like that?
Still I take debugger in Visual studio or Rider any day instead of VSCode debugger.
Anyways I find it mind boggling how many useful actions are not known by „normal people”. Most people are really using computers in a very inefficient way.
My idea is if we would spend time making people learn computers or software they use daily better - we wouldn’t need AI agents and we would triple GDP.
Especially cybercrime one?
Police doesn’t have any capacity to deal with normal cybercrime. AI incident like that is basically out of their reach.
Maybe by „police” you mean FBI/NSA/CISA.
You made my day.
That is the status quo we entered AI age with.
Software as big as operating system already is non deterministic when integrating with unknown hardware or 3rd party software.
That is why Apple controls the hardware and OS for their products, because they can limit non-deterministic things from happening this way.
I can write „you live, you die, get over with it, life is hard, love hurts” - it basically encodes all wisdom of countless poems, books. Yet I have seen many people getting that idea better when the knowledge of this simple truth is in a form of a story.
Conversely, if you write an algorithm using better structure, better data structures it makes a lot of difference.
When you look at King Fu master as a software dev who refuses to use AI and MMA fighter as a dev who embraces AI.
Vibe coders who know nothing about software development are untrained rubes who got mechanical arm that thinks for itself, they can maul MMA fighter, they can maul Kung Fu master but at the same time arm might just rip off their own face.
So yes we don’t live in total anarchy but a lot depends on people being decent.
The same for skiing you don’t have eyes on the back of your head, one behind you is responsible for not crashing into you.
In car you have rear mirrors but if you have something in front of you and breaking you are not going to look in the mirrors.
Google is not great but we all can’t have nice things because of thieves and criminals.
As a society we don’t have enough resources to tend to every dispute.
I don’t think there is a solution to that. Even if ideally we want to help everyone who needs disputes solved - waiting for judge 2 or 3 years is a thing in places but for people it is just useless.
For any failure you would need to have an ocean in the direction of launch.
Also not all orbits are equal because then you need more fuel etc.
It is silly to say every country has equal opportunity to go to space because space is only 100km up. That’s not how it works.
Doing that on projects where I collaborate I would equate to pissing in public.
That is also why pull requests are such a great idea in general, because GIT allows one to piss in his own garden as much as they want.
Even if I could piss in my own branch I never do so when working on a project with other people.
I don't piss around my home obviously in case someone didn't get the metaphor.
Yeah command line is cool and all but I do believe most of the developers should be using UI tooling where staging area is showing nice diffs.
Built in GIT handling in IDE usually is better than command line but also usually worse than dedicated tool like GitExtensions or SourceTree which are free and are super convenient for staging.
People don't know they don't have to stage whole files but they can stage hunks, well in command line it is too much hassle for me but in GUI tools it is no brainer.
I recommend looking here: https://git-scm.com/tools/guis
(it might be that you will be waaay cooler using GUI tool because you will be able to fix things others can't ... saying from my experience)
between 2.5% and 4% that's normal savings account rate and high yield is BS.
I can't hard code any of the flags until I have big customers notified and onboarded with the change.
So one would say why aren't your customers onboarded with the change before you implement it. Well no because they have 20-30 other applications they are using on daily basis.
While yeah we can push some customers to new features, we still need to have some realistic adoption in place before we can switch ... mostly because we are not Attlasian or Microsoft — we have actual people taking angry calls and angry e-mails from the customers.
There is whole LARP scene of FIRE and influential bloggers from that scene are the only ones that are making money.
Nest egg I do believe had merit back when there actually were "high yield savings accounts" available. I basically see who is LARPing money management when I see they post about FIRE or HYSA, well "money market accounts" seem better and kind of like of HYSA, but the hell those are not really that easily available.
Government bonds are also rather interesting for keeping as "nest egg", corporate bonds are useless.
Article author seems to be from quite well off family lamenting he just didn't understood any of financial stuff and world moved on while he ate away whatever he had. Sad part is it can happen to any of us even if we are financially literate because market can be bad far longer than we can afford or like retirement, jobs all of this can shift while we are left with much less for day to day. Part that I don't understand is that, we should expect that outcome rather than be surprised by it. We should be surprised when all went well and there was no recession, layoffs during our lives.
