ossworkerrights··on Private firefighters go to work for California's wealthy
There you go. Seriously sad to read about how this happens in one of the most tech developed areas of the world.
ossworkerrights··on Private firefighters go to work for California's wealthy
Idk, I use Chrome, works like a charm.
ossworkerrights··on Private firefighters go to work for California's wealthy
I suppose once could burry main lines, and have a mechanism that can remotely disable parts of overground lines, and enable them once the fire risk is over. But either way, not acting in anyway makes the US/CA look like a poor country - they certainly have all sorts of excuses for power-cuts in there, and why it is impossibly expensive to fix.

Amusing how anyone suggesting burying powerlines underground is immediately pushed back by "it's expensive" know it alls. Wondering if power-cuts like 3rd world countries enjoy are preferable over a slight increase in power supply costs, and wether impotence is more desirable over action bEcAuSe iT's eXpEnSivE.
ossworkerrights··on Space: A Major Legal Void
Depends on the law. Chinese style surveillance laws are probably a hindrance. Also, space doesn't really belong to any one country. It belongs to all of us, and will probably be dominated by whoever has most guns and is willing to use them.

Funny how crypto is often associated with crime.

The Romanian language has loads of slavic words. Nevesta, ultia, curva, and so on, thanks to its proximity to slavic countries.

ossworkerrights··on Unity creates new open source tool for architects
Hopefully it's not the same kind of land grab, where a large company will "nick" successful products off of their asset store and release them "free of charge".
ossworkerrights··on Unity creates new open source tool for architects
I dont really understand it either. Whats is happening is that some giants give out “free” software, kill their competition and then monetise in other ways (personal data, or cross selling other products), while in some cases they make use of open source products to sell services. Either way the only win is a lousy 9-5 job for programmers who write the freeware, or loss of jobs for those developed the code commercially. Basically open source for non mission critical software is digging one’s own grave.
ossworkerrights··on Unity creates new open source tool for architects
Right, same goes for google. Remember folks, free software and free products means you are the product. And in the process other companies and tools are being put of business while the masses cheers for yet another free tool, forgetting these are made by monopolies that use them as marketing.

Wondering how many commercial products have been jeopardised by this freeware sponsored by a corporation, and how many jobs have been put at risk?
ossworkerrights··on Teleconsole: Share Your Unix Terminal
That's literally less than a 30 seconds read to figure out how this service is different from that tool.
ossworkerrights··on Ants Are Practically Immune to Traffic Jams
"Traffic jams are ubiquitous in human society where individuals are pursuing their own personal objective,"

Perhaps humans don't have the option of walking / driving through wherever they please, and instead they have to use fixed roads / sidewalk? I'm pretty sure if we had the option of driving on dirt we would easily avoid traffic jams, as we'd just drive wherever we want.

ossworkerrights··on AMD Rome – is it for real? Architecture and initial HPC performance
Indeed, but why would anyone buy a Mac Pro given the massive gap? The OS aside, which for me personal is a massive incentive, I don't see a good reason to do so.
ossworkerrights··on We got 900 applications on our Developer Position
There certainly is no shortage of remote applicants.
ossworkerrights··on AMD Rome – is it for real? Architecture and initial HPC performance
Thanks to amd’s recent developments, i basically cancelled buying a new mac pro. Max ram speed 2666 ghz, max per core perf 3.5 ghz? What’s this 2015?
ossworkerrights··on Show HN: I founded a company and a platform to fund open source developers
1% chance you can, and even if you, your “sponsor” will be earning far higher profits off of your work.
ossworkerrights··on Show HN: I founded a company and a platform to fund open source developers
Literally all of those are workers, while some would like to live a life of independent developers. I dont understand why some of you defend making “free” software which mainly benefits large corporations, while you work 9 to 5 jobs.

It is near impossible to make money off of oss as an indie. Working for someone else that makes billions off it and pays you near nothing, doesnt count.
