orionblastar··on Trump says Greenland will be under US control by the time he leaves office
Somehow I doubt it. Trump talks a lot of stuff that he hasn't been able to do, like lowering prices on food and gas.
orionblastar··on Ask HN: Anyone still do work on Intel Macs?
I still have my iMac G3 Bondi Blue in my basement. I had an Intel MacBook but sold it because it only ran up to MacOS 10.7. It worked fine about 10 years ago. Now I doubt it will.
orionblastar··on The Religion of Speed
Yeah, but I made more than 1 plane. You don't want planes that can't fly and crash because they were made sloppily and fast.
orionblastar··on The Religion of Speed
It was a school experiment. The government doesn't want sloppy planes; they want them to be of high quality and fly far. The government was the teacher who decided who won.
orionblastar··on The Religion of Speed
We did a paper airplane test in 5th grade. We split into teams and made them like McDonnell Douglas, etc. First, we saw how many airplanes we could make and then how far they flew. Everyone was rushing to get the planes made, but I took my time and measured them to make sure every fold was done right. My planes flew the farthest, and our team won the government contract. The moral of the story was that haste makes waste.

orionblastar··on The Lisa: Apple's Most Influential Failure (2023)
The Lisa 2 series with the Sony 3.5" floppy drives was able to run Macintosh software via an emulator.
orionblastar··on Seats on hundreds of Boeing 737MAX were incorrectly installed:US aviation agency
Something about quality control not being followed in installing seats?
orionblastar··on What are the costs and risks of replacing COBOL systems with modern alternatives
I worked at the US Army ATCOM base migrating databases and programs from an IBM Mainframe to Windows 3.X using Access and SQL Server and Visual BASIC. We kept the IBM Mainframe and HP/UX databases and programs to compare to the new ones. If the results where the same, we were good enough to switch over. If the results are different, time to debug the modern programs.

I earned my stripes as a Super Debugger by fixing other people's mistakes and bugs. Sure you are going to have them, you have to debug your way out of it.

orionblastar··on AIs don't do what you want. This is bad
You can ask an AI like GROK for an opinion on something, then disagree with it, and it says you are probably right and tells you what you want to hear. Like a Yes-Man.
orionblastar··on Tesla says 'Robotaxi' is expanding – its own chart shows it's not
How does RoboTaxi avoid accidents, and what happens when there is an accident? Who gets the blame?
orionblastar··on Linux kernel won't be anti-AI – Linus Torvalds
They should make AI an option in Linux instead of what Microsoft did to Windows 11 and make it installed with the OS.
orionblastar··on Ford's Chairman Warns America Can't Keep Chinese Cars Out Forever
U.S. patents aren't valid in China, but Chinese patents are International.
orionblastar··on LinkedIn is a cesspool of scammers and identity theft
There is also a Minecraft scam where the scammer takes over the Microsoft account. https://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/1puiae0/scammers...
orionblastar··on Ask HN: Did Google give up in the AI Race?
https://security.apple.com/blog/expanding-pcc/ Private Cloud Compute will use Google and Nvidia as outside companies. Apple formed a partnership instead of building its own AI Data Centers; it rents time on Google and Nvidia's infrastructure.
orionblastar··on Disney is exploring adding a free tier to Disney+ as YouTube draws TV viewers
Whatever free tier it is will be loaded with advertising.
orionblastar··on Half of Americans struggle to afford groceries and gas, exclusive poll finds
It is because of inflation and salaries not keeping up with it.

orionblastar··on China Is About to Pop the AI Bubble [video]
The USA is still building AI Data Centers: https://cleanview.co/data-centers/us Losing most of the countries as customers will cause a loss of income. It is that simple. Most of these data centers have a negative ROI right now, and when the bubble pops, the sh*t will hit the fan.
orionblastar··on Ask HN: When will the stock market crash?
When Inflation reaches a certain level and makes the US Dollar worth less than pennies. We have had hyperinflation already, and the US Dollar doesn't buy as much as it once did. I figure around 2030, when the Shit Hits the fan and the US National Debt is beyond paying off without printing up a large amount of money. We might go to the Digital Dollar before that.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Reset The WEF has The Great Reset to pay off debt from COVID-19, and it might turn nations into socialist nations with universal basic income for those who lost their jobs and can't find work due to factors like AI, etc.

orionblastar··on Proof That the Unraveling of MAGA Has Begun [video][46 Mins]
MAGA was a bubble that has just begun to pop. The new bubble is the Democratic Socialist Party taking over NYC and soon the Senate and Congress.
orionblastar··on Europe Is Hot as Hell. Why Doesn't It Want Air Conditioning?
Thank you.
orionblastar··on Trump made more than a billion dollars from crypto ventures in first year back
https://www.binance.com/en/price/official-trump His Trump Coin is doing well. It just had a spike in price.
orionblastar··on Show HN: Gilfoyle's Project but IRL
He had a Bitcoin supercomputer named Anton. It hacked the Smart Fridge and made backups of client data from Smart Fridges.
orionblastar··on We are capitalist, not socialist
We have Welfare Capitalism, which is considered socialist like Social Security, Welfare, and Disability. A social safety net is needed in case people get old or hurt, or can't work a job.
orionblastar··on If the FCC Bans Burner Phones, It Could Be a Privacy Nightmare
They want to get rid of burner phones so spies and terrorists won't be able to use them anonymously anymore. This is just like when the FBI got the unlock code for iPhones to read a terrorist's locked iPhone; now they can unlock any iPhone.
orionblastar··on The Garbage Collection Handbook: The Art of Automatic Memory Management (2nd Ed) (2023)
I remember reading it before. My son threw it away when we moved houses, not knowing how important it was. I'd recommend it.
orionblastar··on Americans are inundated with suspected scams
When my mother was alive, a Kevin Gates claimed to be a timeshare lawyer and would sell her timeshare. She didn't know Kevin Gates was a rap star. Suspect the scammer used a fake name. Asked her for a retainer and not to tell anyone of her friends and family about it. Told her to tell the moneygram it is for her grandchildren. He got $10,000 out of her before we found out. Money she could not get back. Social Engineering is a scammer's tool against older people.
orionblastar··on Ask HN: Yahoo deleted all my emails. Now what?
I read my Yahoo account with Thunderbird, which stores messages on my hard drive.
orionblastar··on AI was supposed to make smarter decisions. Iit may be making leaders dangerous
I agree, I learned Math using a calculator, and I can't do Math in my head now. My father told me a calculator is a crutch.
