orasis··on Ask HN: It seems like everyone is getting rich?
You may find it too abstract, but this mindset is exactly why I’ve been successful twice, now going on three times.

I’m also saying this specifically for the sake of the poster because it appears they are operating from a scarcity mindset, which will only hold them back.

orasis··on Ask HN: It seems like everyone is getting rich?
Focus on building a life that operates from love and abundance rather than fear and lack.

Grow your skills so you can be of service to others.

These two things will make you most likely to become rich.

“Mastery of Love” and “Millionaire Fastlane” are two books I would recommend.

orasis··on Apple Regrets Confusion over 'iPhone Scanning'
So you end up selecting for a company full of spineless yes-people. The logic makes zero sense to me. Apple isn’t going away anytime soon and the best opportunities for change will come from consistent internal pressure.
orasis··on Apple Regrets Confusion over 'iPhone Scanning'
OK? So why do you want the privacy focused employees to quit? It sounds like that would only make the problem worse.
orasis··on Actual impostors don't get impostor syndrome
This concept is so tired! If you grind for years to mastery under the tutelage of true masters, you feel no imposter syndrome - you feel confident and complete in yourself. Temet Nosce
orasis··on My app failed: lessons learned
A good enough product with great distribution can earn you a fantastic income if you bootstrap.
orasis··on A Storage Crisis
I’m still happy with my setup of Drobo + 2 rotating time machine backup HDs. I’ve probably been using it close to 10 years now.
orasis··on Organic and regenerative agriculture are revitalizing rural Montana economies
If you've ever tried hydroponic, you quickly realize that soil is amazing technology. Indoor ag is yet another utopian fantasy.
orasis··on Ask HN: 30 years old with no career
Forget the money. Focus on serving others and it will transform you.
orasis··on JsonLogic
This is almost always a bad idea. It’s best to find a way to use a full blown programming language for these types of customization.
orasis··on We Must Save San Francisco
Hopefully these other cities follow its lead.
orasis··on Using GDPR to obtain one’s data as JSON
How much do you expect that “price of doing business” to cost? Probably at least $10k plus opportunity cost which for my small app business would be a serious kick in the nuts.

These regulations just further enable monopolies and make it more difficult for diverse entrepreneurs to get into the game.

I’m just saying to be mindful that you might be costing a small business an enormous amount by making these types of requests.

orasis··on Using GDPR to obtain one’s data as JSON
It’s your right in Europe. It’s offensive that some would expect a non-European organization to comply.
orasis··on Using GDPR to obtain one’s data as JSON
This “one neat trick” means that some high level employee probably had to do it by hand.

Making a request like this is a borderline unethical waste of someone’s time.

orasis··on Montana to cancel unemployment benefits to address severe workforce shortage
Montana has become absolutely inundated with CoVid refugees fleeing the cities which has massively driven up housing prices and rents to the point where it's completely unaffordable for anyone working class. Businesses first got hit with being shut down by CoVid and now can't fully re-open because no one wants to work. It's a complete shitshow here and I know numerous people that have been here for decades that are being forced out.
orasis··on Montana to cancel unemployment benefits to address severe workforce shortage
Montana resident here. I won’t comment in the wisdom of the policy itself, but I will say that people avoiding work due to CoVid benefits is a very real thing. It’s widely considered wise to go hunting and play video games rather than go to work.
orasis··on Small cities in America’s Mountain West are booming
The problem is that you overpay for real estate driving prices through the roof and leaving legacy locals homeless.
orasis··on Ask HN: My startup has more annual subscribers than monthly. What to make of it?
Quite the opposite. As a niche becomes saturated with competition, user acquisition costs rise to approach the level of the highest margin player. If you want to have a sustainable business it behooves you to have better optimized margins than the competition.
orasis··on Ask HN: My startup has more annual subscribers than monthly. What to make of it?
I sooo disagree. Mispricing could be leaving massive value on the table plus increased margin can allow you to pay more for user acquisition.
orasis··on Prescriptive software is better than descriptive software
I think the library vs framework lens is more productive. Write libraries, not frameworks: https://www.brandonsmith.ninja/blog/libraries-not-frameworks
orasis··on Tesla owners asking what happens if 'full self driving' isn't real
I hope someone starts a class action lawsuit. We’ve paid for a product that we didn’t receive.
orasis··on John Sullivan resign as executive director of the Free Software Foundation
That is the entire point of the Christian practice of forgiveness. It is unconditional.

It is a practice, something you do in spite of it being challenging.

The practice itself is mostly for the forgiver, not the forgiven. Try it and watch your heart soften and open.

orasis··on John Sullivan resign as executive director of the Free Software Foundation
Forgiveness technically does NOT require those things. That’s the point. It’s fore-give-ness.
orasis··on Amazon S3 Object Lambda
It looks like there is no support for a custom listObjects result?
orasis··on Berkeley may get rid of single-family zoning
“thanks to new proposals to scrap historically racist single-family zoning and legalize the widespread construction of fourplexes.”

Is anyone else tired of this type of lazy advocacy that labels something as “racist” in an attempt to support their agenda?

orasis··on Bitfinex and Tether required to end all trading activity with New Yorkers
Yes! Value producing assets produce value regardless of the nominal price of that value. It’s insane that people don’t understand this.
orasis··on Find a person's profile across 350 social media sites
Building a tool is an ethical choice. Technology has no inherent right to exist. This is a bad project.
orasis··on Ask HN: Advice for finding an entry-level remote job?
I hire all my employees on upwork.com and Fiverr, but you will be competing against global wages.
orasis··on The Feminine Physique: On Women's Bodybuilding
Concur. I worked out quite haphazardly during the last 9 months and have maintained most of my strength.
orasis··on The Feminine Physique: On Women's Bodybuilding
Every display sport has a consensus aesthetic that is being optimized for.

Don’t expect to be judged well if you’re showing parkour steez at a gymnastics competition.

It doesn’t mean the sport is wrong, it just maybe means you should pioneer an alternative sport or category to suit your target aesthetic.
