one33seven··on Germany's sick-note crackdown may be treating the symptoms, not the disease
Haven't we learned from covid that one should stay at home for a few weeks when sick? Being sick for 20 days of 365 does not sound like much. A typical cold will be like 14 days...
one33seven··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
It's a race to the bottom and I understand everyone who does not vote (for one of the 2 major parties) on the condition that they don't give up hope but start to learn and organize for real change.
one33seven··on DARPA, U.S. Air Force fly AI-controlled F-16
There was (or rather is) lots of military AI used in Gaza too
one33seven··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
I'm not equating them, I'm literally saying to ignore these parts (most left-wing part of Dems - DSA, most right-wing part of Reps - fascist part of MAGA) of the two parties when comparing. I support DSA, it's the only alternative there is in the USA.
one33seven··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
Are you saying USA is somehow a good example for environmental issues and human rights? Read the news in the past years?
one33seven··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
Adam Smith himself knew you had to constrain the market in ordner to protect capitalism from capitalists. His work didn't end with his first book.
one33seven··on Startup founders urge U.S. government not to shut off Chinese open weight AI
Both sides support genocide, under Biden even more Black people died in america.

Both truly are the same (ignoring DSA and extreme MAGA, but the centrists of both are doing the same politics)

one33seven··on [dead]
The back and forth of the different authors is quite interesting
one33seven··on Judge approves $1.5B Anthropic settlement for pirated books used to train Claude
If it is based on all our data, we should all own it and democratically chose what is done with it or profits it generates
one33seven··on 'VPNs are lawful technical tools,' says EU Court in landmark copyright ruling
Imagine your mum died. It's not nice to say "hey tjwebbnorfolk your mum is dead" is it? It's true, but vile.
one33seven··on 'VPNs are lawful technical tools,' says EU Court in landmark copyright ruling
In germany it's an organization of the biggest copyright holders that make ISPs block sites, without any court order.
one33seven··on Show HN: Faceblind – In-browser only video face blurring
> But why use a ready made software when you can have AI build one for you

Many reasons. Especially for something that's supposed to protect my identity. Cool project nonetheless.

one33seven··on Apple defeats liability for not scanning iCloud for CSAM
Hitler was elected too (not saying he is Hitler)
one33seven··on Apple defeats liability for not scanning iCloud for CSAM
It is not about CSAM, it's about scanning our data. If it were about kids safety there would be lots of people in jail
one33seven··on Advertise in ChatGPT
This is what happened with YouTube for instance
one33seven··on Advertise in ChatGPT
Yes like money and agriculture. We produce enough food for everyone and then throw it away because some dont have money for it. Very good example!
one33seven··on Google Is Censoring Reviews of ICE Detention Centers
Fair analysis. But we should lose sight of the goal to end this horror.

Kind of like "end slavery" vs "make living conditions for slaves better".

one33seven··on Why is it so hard for the U.S. to win wars?
They bombed civilians and fisher boats and so on, if that's not war what is it?
one33seven··on Google Is Censoring Reviews of ICE Detention Centers
Don't "detain" (kidnap) and "remove" (mass deport) them?

I don't like the whole system of masked guys without badgets picking up kids from the street and putting them in camps to be deported. Do you get my sentiment?

Especially since the country doing it has no, literally no moral reason to claim the land. USA is a settler colonialist project.

They even tried deporting native americans! This whole shit has to stop.

one33seven··on Google Is Censoring Reviews of ICE Detention Centers
They need to be abolished, not reformed.
one33seven··on China’s open-weights AI strategy is winning
I would say there is a lot wrong with a system based around getting rich with AI... it's already dangerous and if we would work together we could test it securely before deploying it literally everywhere
one33seven··on The EU is about to sell our most sensitive data to the US for visa-free travel
You really put a lot of trust in countries that are rules by oligarchs and where a far-right is rising to power...
one33seven··on Why is it so hard for the U.S. to win wars?
Depends on the war. Venezuela was quickly won.
one33seven··on Show HN: Firefox in WebAssembly
You are forgetting that this is largely edited by AI as a fun project. Finding a bug in that firefox probably is a lot easier than usual.
one33seven··on Everybody Should Welcome Nationalizing AI
Socialists, like those running Jacobin, argue for democratic rule over AI. They are not claiming all problems go away when nationalizing AI, they are saying if we want to control what was build on our data, we should actually democratically control it instead of having billionaires do what they want with it.
one33seven··on Everybody Should Welcome Nationalizing AI
"AI Is a Product of Humanity. Humanity Should Own AI." was the title of their last article about this and I agree, in the long run nationalizing alone isn't enough and every human should have democratic say about its use
one33seven··on What xAI's Grok build CLI sends to xAI: A wire-level analysis
Removing the word actually from the title really confused me
one33seven··on I love LLMs, I hate hype
A few days back there was a post saying the only ones making money with AI are the ones selling the hardware
one33seven··on How to read more books
I always have two books going. An important one I read at home in peace and one I can read on public transport because I don't have to / want to concentrate on it too hard.

Reading in public transport has helped me to read more often at home too

one33seven··on I've been fixing AI slop for 6 months and here's my observations
> you could request somebody's data by just passing different id in url

Developers should feed their models the OWASP Website. This is known as IDOR. https://cheatsheetseries.owasp.org/cheatsheets/Insecure_Dire...
