she us doing very well despite the odds against her. her comeback spirit alone can take an ordinary company to extraordinary heights, and she is working in education: the only field that any technical innovation can be a major disruptor as it is an antiquated system.
Just give them clues. no one looks at code in github that you have done per se, but what you may have contributed to other open source projects, comments, respect from fellow githubers etc. it's a way of figuring expertise not experience.
in my opinion, hack schools are a complete waste of money. For $ 10k you are over paying. Personally as an Economics major I started with codeacademy a few months ago, git the basics and then started a project. between stack overflow, a dozen other forums and github I am learning quite a lot, and with results. Part of software engineering is quality if products not background academically and am sure with one more year I could be a more than passable apprentice in this
doesn't deserve it a bit. Snowden brought up a debate that is lasting, that concerns us. there is nothing the pope brought up that defined the year. Mandela would have been a better choice.
you shouldn't avoid a glossary. and put in jQuery there as well, it is a vital component. it wont hurt to touch on responsive design across different devices. simplify that and you got a winner.
well the weight of a nickel is about 10 grams. a truck cam do 12 tonnes for a six wheeler or 28 tonnes for a 22 wheeler with 3 axles. thats 600k coins for the 6 wheeler or 2.8 million for the 22 wheeler. am in Kenya so my calculations may not make complete sense, but I estimated for a fact you can't pack metal past 75cm high despite size of of vehicle. thus totally wrong.
getting a hustler designer is pretty difficult. but I think with the right product bootstrapped you got a chance, problem is that you are hitting saturated markets if I were to analyse your ventures. Data companies are hitting, meaning you are doing nothing great. SV needs new stuff.
needing college is a calculation of your planned life trajectory. I am finishing two degrees this year, law and economics with statistics and I can tell you 80% of the time you are wasting your time. however depending on your life plan that 20% may be the edge you need. but seriously if you dream of a startup career a degree is pretty much useless. I started learning code, from fundamentals, html intact, don't laugh, two months ago and I can say for a person with your experience you need not go to college, instead strive to create a new language within the next two years and chalk it off as college.
Theoretically the best way to scaling a startup, but unless you are YC funded and Techcrunch AND NYT and other similar hyped, dont expect any success with this. You have to bring a critical mass to the table, 0 -2million improbable but more likely can we say 30k-5,000,000 is very possible
how about crowdsourced tutoring, where tutors pay for the app, and students apply and pay for tutors who teach at most 5 students a session? Could it feasibly work?
i think they would have sold it off. Their idea seems amazing and would have worked even in Kenya where I live and thats saying something. But it seems they had passion which may serve them elsewhere.
