That said, I started programming in basic when <10 yo in 1980 on a mainframe, so am not a good example of someone who has been spoon-fed expectations of what it takes to be a true badass.
We manage the pipelines for downstream analytics.
We have combinations of data and actuarial scientists doing this analysis, so those would be good things to look into.
One part that dovetails with your QA experience is there's a lot of work with different reporting systems where the data needs to line up correctly.
Evaluating risk is more open-ended, since it also requires analysis of external data.

Not the best for composition, but for all sorts of synth and effect building, cannot be beat.
Doing stuff like algorithmically making bell frequencies, then playing 100s of bells at once is easy, as it can be all variables, all the way down.
