omega3··on How Monty Python and the Holy Grail became a comedy legend
Is there anything even remotely comparable in quality to Monty Python right now?
omega3··on Why are credit card rates so high?
Among people who optimise their personal finance and investments?
omega3··on Why are credit card rates so high?
It’s also a popular investment strategy to draw the credit ( potentially from multiple credit cards) and invest it.
omega3··on 300-year-old Polish beech voted Tree of the Year
I suppose trees outside of Europe aren't taken into consideration for the European Tree of the Year award.
omega3··on Kagi – Introducing Fair Pricing
I do this for all services now, it requires more active management on my part, but the mindful spending is worth it - both for the wallet and as a market signal. I used it most recently for Claude which has had scaling issues, diminished quality, defaults to concise responses.
omega3··on GPT-5 is behind schedule
Sounds like "yes but" rather than "no" otherwise you're responding to self created straw man.
omega3··on GPT-5 is behind schedule
People who say „it’s bullshit” are the ones that push the technological advance forward.
omega3··on GPT-5 is behind schedule
Same, on every release from openai, anthropic I keep reading how the new model is so much better (insert hyperbole here) than the previous one yet when using it I feel like they are mostly the same as last year.

omega3··on Show HN: I designed an espresso machine and coffee grinder
If I was in a market for minimalistic espresso machine I'd just get a manual espresso machine, something like the cafelat robot [1]. No plastic, standard professional 58mm group head (compared to the 51mm here), pressure gauge, no need for any hot water tubes, no electronics

omega3··on ChatGPT Pro
This is called price anchoring.
omega3··on List of books that will induce a mindfuck
There Is No Antimemetics Division deserves a mention as well.
omega3··on New textbook teaches students about matrix methods and their real world apps
> first taught a 9th-grade general math class

This blows my mind. The kids in the US don't learn/know simple fractions until they are ±15yo? In Europe I believe it's around 9-10 years old which is still late considering I've had it when I was 7 or 8.

omega3··on The letter ℘: name and origin? (2017)
Claude worked it out from that description.
omega3··on The almost-lost art of rosin potatoes
Is the crust edible on these, looking at the photos online that seems a lot of salt if it is?
omega3··on Reflections on Palantir
Sounds like a modern version of an consultancy company but with a significant focus on data rather than business processes.
omega3··on The richest people borrow against their stock (2021)
These are called lombard loans e.g. https://www.credit-suisse.com/ch/en/private-clients/investme...
omega3··on What Ticketmaster doesn't want you to know: tickets were cheaper for decades
I rarely go to ticketed events any longer due to absurd prices. It’s hard for me to understand the obsession with festivals either: expensive, long queues, poor organisation, poor sound quality.
omega3··on Microsoft's new Outlook client moves your email to the cloud (2023)
Every email program attempts to expand its features until it can no longer efficiently send email. Those programs which resist this expansion are eventually replaced by ones which cannot.
omega3··on ChessDream, a place for chess players to improve
You're making some strong claims re the chess engine:

> Play, evaluate and analyze games with the strongest engine out there.

> Challenge our state-of-the-art chess AI, designed to match and enhance your skill level.

Are you using an opensource engine without specifying it?

omega3··on I won't be renewing my Pinboard subscription
Pinboard isn't shutting down.
omega3··on Confirmed: Reflection 70B's official API is a wrapper for Sonnet 3.5
> My name rhymes with "odd" and starts with the third letter of the alphabet 3. I share my name with a famous French composer (C*** Debussy)

Hilarious.

omega3··on Vim Racer
VimGolf does it this way.
omega3··on No "Hello", No "Quick Call", and No Meetings Without an Agenda
More often than not when I encounter people with these very strict prescribed communication preferences it’s due to either, hubris, inability to manage their own time or skills issue - people are just afraid to be asked a question because they might not know the answer.
omega3··on Condé Nast Signs Deal with OpenAI
This isn’t a benefit to a customer, only to shareholders.
omega3··on No "Hello", No "Quick Call", and No Meetings Without an Agenda
I’m amazed these titans of productivity have time to write blog posts about productivity.
omega3··on Condé Nast Signs Deal with OpenAI
Hard to see what the benefit to the customers is.
omega3··on Ask HN: Has degradation in the quality of ChatGPT and Claude been proven?
I've seen different type of complaint most frequently which doesn't match the pattern you've given:

t0: novel task 'foo' is successful

t1: novel task 'bar' (similar to 'foo') fails

Common suggestion here is to execute 'foo' again but the issue here is that the response to 'foo' at t > 0 might just be cached version of response at t0. I think a good analogy here would be an interaction with a human that suffers from cognitive decline. You might get correct answer everyday to the same question but with novel question you notice the degradation in the quality of responses.

omega3··on Jacek Karpińśki, the computer genius the communists couldn't stand (2017)
Of course you can draw a moral equivalence. You can't plan[0], invade a country[1] perform genocide on it's people, install and support puppet government and only let go when your own country totally imploded and expect anything other than disdain.
