oldgregg··on Better Call GPT: Comparing large language models against lawyers [pdf]
So what do you call it when the wealthy and corporations exploit their opponent's inability to afford legal representation? A normal Tuesday in Amerika. Yes, the banality of tuesday terrorism.
oldgregg··on Better Call GPT: Comparing large language models against lawyers [pdf]
That's different. I'm talking about using it as a defensive mechanism against wealthy individuals and corporations who bully (relatively) poor people knowing they can't afford years of litigation. In theory if you had an AI system like what I'm talking about it could be used the other way though. Honestly if every individual had the ability to go after corporations in the same manner it would even the playing field. Still wouldn't necessarily be vexatious.

Interesting problem space-- I have a culture jamming legal theory this might work for:

What if you had a $99/mo pro-se legal service that does two things, 1) teaches you how to move all of your assets into secure vehicles. 2) At the same time it lets you conduct your own defense pro-se-- but the point is not to win, it's just to jam the system. If you signal to the opposing party that you're legally bankrupt and then you just file motion after motion and make it as excruciating as possible for them they might just say nevermind when they realize it's gonna take them 5 years to get through appeals process.

It's true lawyers don't want to give up their legal documents for a template service-- but honestly just going to the court house and ingesting tons of filings might do the trick. With that strategy in mind you don't really need GREAT documents or legal theory anyway. Just docs that comply with court filing requirements. Yeah we're def gonna need to deposition your housekeepers daughters at $400/h and if you have a problem with that I would be happy to have a hearing about it. If enough people did this is would basically bring the legal system to a standstill and give power back to the people.

RIP Aaron Swartz who died fighting for these issues :'(

just what i was looking for thx.
oldgregg··on 48x32: A 1536 LED Game Computer
A few weeks ago I went through one of those drive through Christmas light displays. It had dozens of 10-20ft metal sculpture frames of various designs that were wrapped in lights. On some structures there was very basic programming, certain lights would turn off and on in a sequence to simulate movement, but the basic metal structure had a pre-defined shape. It got me thinking if it would be possible to build a cheap metal structure that's like 20ftx40ft LED wall using chinese WLEDS in a grid, using arduino etc. Basically a giant, cheap, low resolution, display. Anybody seen something like this this?
oldgregg··on It's true – your devices are listening to you
When Zuck and big tech issues a denial you will notice they always say "we're not recording you" --- yeah cuz they are using on-device transcription to send back keywords!
oldgregg··on An Open Letter to Taylor Swift
Bro doesn't understand how the game works. Taylor is in on it 100%. It's not labels vs artists, it's labels + top artists vs. everyone else.

oldgregg··on OpenAI Employee: GPT-4 has been static since March
OpenAI turned on the "full featured" GPT4 just long enough to learn what people could use it for. Now they turn off those features and use all of those ideas to spawn new companies on a now-private GPT4 Original api and cripple everyone else. When they say "don't worry about building on our API we won't go up the value-chain" -- no shit, but only because they don't want regulatory scrutiny. So they will just trickle-out API access to companies that they own and control through extensive personal networks. Google, Facebook, Twitter, Amazon... Build on someone else's API and they will jam you 100% of the time.
oldgregg··on Ask HN: My GPT project has become a local hit but I can't afford the bill
Make ibizabear (or your real name the name) the name and likeness of the AI. Then just pay for it out of pocket for 90 days and become a local celebrity?

oldgregg··on A search engine for searching books in the Z-Library index on the IPFS network
Contact info? I'm currently developing a p2p tcp library in Golang based off perlin-network/noise which is a very clean implementation but abandoned.
oldgregg··on Golang disables Nagle's Algorithm by default
Would be naive to think corporate incentives are not influencing code and protocols:

> Http/3 standardized 6 months ago and Google has been widely using it for years-- but not supported by Go.

> Webtransport originally did P2P/Ice component but no longer.

> Http/3 doesn't even have option to work without certificate authorities.

oldgregg··on A search engine for searching books in the Z-Library index on the IPFS network
I certainly wouldn't disparage the talent- no doubt vast majority have good intentions but unfortunately they are being paid handsomely to have their work be rendered ineffective. Gobble up all the best P2P devs and get them focused on work that is largely ineffective. Lots of code and specs but nothing really usable. Code is not very original, they just take other libraries and tweak them. mplex is their version of yamux, autonat is their version of stun/ice... but then none of their libraries really work together seemlessly. Embrace extend extinguish? If you look at their massive code output then google "what apps use libp2p" you won't find anything because nobody uses it. Berty is really only app worth a mention.
oldgregg··on A search engine for searching books in the Z-Library index on the IPFS network
Honestly I think Consensys/IPFS/Libp2p is just some corporatized way to derail real P2P and decentralization. Their libraries are total garbage. Lots of complicated code that simply doesn't work. No documentation. I mean look how much IPFS and Libp2p is pumped but IT DOESN'T WORK. IPNS is a joke. All way overengineered crap that does everything but actually nothing. Look at the $$$ and pedigree behind Consensys it's 100% establishment.

All of the psyops, bots, and algorithms that have been trying to convince people that Free Speech Is Bad is failing-- both here and everywhere. Bring it on.
oldgregg··on Why Men Are Hard to Help
Men still 100% rule the world and always will. It's just now a small group of elite men rather than power being more distributed. The entire "feminism" project is mostly just social engineering for elite men to castrate their competition and consolidate power under the guise of equality.
oldgregg··on 2022 Amish Population Profile
Lulz. like urban people who work in tech and are trying to be real Amish but also love crypto. We've studied groups like the orthodox Jews and Mormons and see the world retribalizing and decentralizing and want to experiment and learn from other traditions but without all of the institutional baggage.

oldgregg··on 2022 Amish Population Profile
I just joined an experimental crypto-Amish community near Austin. I work in blockchain, so all about decentralized community. We're honest about how technology is making all of us craaaazy. No porn here but we get to use solar and arduino to feed the chickens. Grew up in the city but really surprised I really don't miss that shit.

FAANG has plenty of private XKeyscore wrong-think APIs that the bureaucracy utilizes under the auspices of "fraud prevention" to filter out "bad thinkers" from various activities. Welcome to fascism, folks.

oldgregg··on Ask HN: I have received a Cease And Desist letter. What to do?
Great marketing keep it up :) ignore all the nerds on here staying stop being mean.

I would tell him that the comparison page is staying up, but if you want to request SPECIFIC changes on anything defamatory then invite him to enumerate his concerns. The valid concerns you genuinely change-- then post your email exchange for more marketing clout :D

oldgregg··on Embeddable, replicated and fault tolerant SQL engine based on Sqlite
Looking for solution as well. I want a p2p solution where users can "subscribe" to a public SQLite database and received signed blocks/wal from the swarm. Edits would go into a distributed mempool to be signed by the key owner.

WhatsApp encryption is a joke. It has secret APIs that can pull the unencrypted messages off your device anytime they want.
oldgregg··on Sundar Pichai warns of threats to internet freedom
So google is trying to save every country in the world from fascism... by forcing them into a technological matrix they exert total authoritarian control over. Lol. FAANG employees and their shills truly believe they are gods guiding humanity into the future.
