Whenever I have to demo an application which uses video, Blender's movies work well since it's free to use!
That and I love traveling. Considering I actually increase my income during Corona, I can't really complain all that much. Maybe I didn't have as much fun as I wanted to but my livelihood has been secure.
It's as if we have decades of legacy code wasting billions of dollars of power per year. I strongly believe within the next decade the vast majority of computers, new computers consumers buy anyway, will run on arm( or whatever replaces it). This will also be amazing for servers, imagine a data center that can run off 30% of the power of an Intel based data center.
I really do love my m1 Mac Mini, I only use it for music but so far I've been nothing but amazed by it.
If an intern writes a small Python script to format CSV contacts, that's programming. Programming can be completely visual as well, such as Unreal blueprints. I don't suggest going that route because it doesn't open up many career opportunities, but it still is programming.
Personally I've never been able to use a lower level language to get anything done. And I still have a fantastic career.
Um, I do extremely well working exclusively with higher level languages like Python and JavaScript. If we're talking about pure salary, a senior web dev will probably make more than the vast majority of embedded engineers.
I'm totally nitpicking here, but I don't like the gatekeeping of saying you need to be able to use a low level language to be a programmer
I fully blame social media, no where else have I been so relentlessly attacked. I improved my own mental health tremendously by deleting this crap, no Tinder, Snapchat, Insta, etc. In fact I have an easier time making friends and meeting partners now.
Here's an experiment. After work, leave your phone at home and walk around for at least an hour. Give your brain a break from constant NOTIFICATION stimulation!
Live your life the way you see fit, and of other people have a problem with it that's their business
https://www.snagajob.com/ I imagine it depends on your situation.
If I was 19 I'd love it. I'd hate living like this with a family to support
If someone can Doordash, etc, and make more( while arguably dealing with less stress) they'll rationally do that.
Or since this is HN, can you automate some of these tasks ?
Say you pay 25$ an hour, but it's only 8 hours a week during peak ?
I think with the gig economy young people are used to only working when they want.
Although getting fired for something like this implies you are already on thin ice, and you basically pushed your luck.
All respect to the op though, these companies aren't your friends, and the very second you have a better opportunity you need to take it. By far the best experiences of my early adulthood was getting fired, I learned at a young age to not feel any loyalty to these companies. They don't care if your wife, or your kids are sick. They don't care if you need HealthCare coverage to keep living, they only care about the bottom line
Take care of yourself, and save your money.
Cars add an extra 300$ to 700$ a month . Most people just can't afford it so they live very precarious lives.
LA is a horrible place to live , had I been 19 today I'd end up on the streets since housing is so much more expensive now. Stop thinking about what "society" will do to solve homelessness. Garcetti has no real ability, nor will , to fix LA. Leave while you still can. I had to estrange myself from my family , but hell. I went from 25k in credit card debt to 40k saved up. When I moved to Chicago my cost of living dropped by 30% , I had an amazing partner and for the first time in a good while felt hope. I can't express enough how horrible LA is.
Leave now !
Pick an easier language , I suggest Python or Javascript.
If you come from a lower income background such as myself college is needed since you need to surround yourself with better people.
Eh. 150k working on Java enterprise systems vs working at Costco for 15$ an hour. Java isn't great, but it's still much easier than C or C++ imo.
In a perfect world we could all work in Python all day, but that's not life
Most people basically work to eat, I've taken Java jobs just because I needed the work. It can always be worse.
Like, if you're out of work for a couple of months and the only way to feed your kids is to take a Java job, I don't think you'd pass it up. I wouldn't pass it up either even though I don't like Java. The whole language feels like it's designed to meet some minimum lines of code requirement.
If you're working on a team, strongly typed languages like Java and C sharp are a must. Otherwise it can get extremely hard to figure out what exactly other people are doing.
And when I think about it I don't think America has an obligation to take care of every other country on Earth.
