oddx··on NBC Story about Hacking at Sochi is 100% Fraudulent
And now try to imagine which opportunities it gives to some political forces in Russia to say: "Look, they all against us, they are our enemies".
oddx··on Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hotel experiences
No, it isn't. Sign says only "paper". It isn't clear what they mean, can be interpreted differently.
oddx··on Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hotel experiences
In russian it simple "paper", not "toilet paper" [1]

oddx··on Journalists at Sochi are live-tweeting their hotel experiences
As of "do not flush toilet paper", I have seen such signs in many places around the world (but I don't know reasons behind it), and it isn't only my experience [1]. It's intresting that it was a new for journalist who travels a lot.

oddx··on The one map you need to understand Ukraine’s crisis
Actually regions harmed by mass famine in 32 and 33 are mostly pro-Russia, and most against-Russia regions weren't part of USSR at that time.
oddx··on Best reply to a Pull Request ever?
> just posted a donation link

Poster trying to represent link as donation for ukrainians, and this is lie. This is help for specific political forces. Someone may think they a better than current government, but they for sure isn't "the people" as poster trying to represent. I wont go into political discussion anyway, it isn't topic for HN.

oddx··on Best reply to a Pull Request ever?
I'm not speaking about politics here. You are calling to support one side and I just want to make very clear that when you are helping one side you are not helping "the people", you are not helping "ukrainians", you are helping conrete doubtful political forces to take power.
oddx··on Best reply to a Pull Request ever?
There are corrupted but legal government on one side and opposition that tries violently take power on other side. Sure it isn't obvious choose as you try to present it.
oddx··on Best reply to a Pull Request ever?
Just don't be naive and understand that you are supporting not ukrainians but some (minor? worst?) part of them.
oddx··on Brain connections may explain why girls mature faster
> downvote

Maybe it because you become personal instead of bringing arguments?

oddx··on Ruby 2.1 Released
And 1.9 was about twice as fast as 1.8. So it should be 400% percent improvement compared to 1.8.
oddx··on Pre-New-Year Check of PostgreSQL
Then you have enough developers to do salesman's work. This sounds even worse.
oddx··on AK47 assault rifle inventor Kalashnikov dies at 94
Another difference is relations to annexed territories.

Territories, annexed from Poland, had majority of population Eastern Slavs (Ukrainian and Belarussian), not Poles, were part of Russia for hundreds of years (except Galicia) and were annexed by Poland from Russia (Galicia from Austria) 20 years before.

oddx··on Telegram protocol defeated. Authors are going to modify crypto-algorithm
This hole allows server (or somebody who can control connection between client and server) to read "encrypted" messages between clients.
oddx··on New China (Beijing) Region Coming Soon
How it's different from same implicit Terms for accounts in USA?
oddx··on Check out JetBrains' new R&D office in St. Petersburg
But most of their talents are in St. Petersburg, so this point has no logic. You could use this reasoning if their (small) headquaters were in St. Petersburg and most of development offices in Prague, but in reality opposite is true.
oddx··on Check out JetBrains' new R&D office in St. Petersburg
You are right mostly, here the full story (in Russian) http://www.xakep.ru/post/60338/.

In short: 90% of employes (including founders) in JetBrains are Russians, and founders moved to Prague in 1999 because of economic reasons. Headquaters remains in Prague mostly because of it was founded here and, probably, because of reasons you are mentioned.

oddx··on FBI – Cyber’s Most Wanted
BJORN DANIEL SUNDIN can be counted as representative of western world in this list.
oddx··on FBI – Cyber’s Most Wanted
Given that he has russian (slavic) first name that sounds plausible.
oddx··on FBI – Cyber’s Most Wanted
Five:

- ALEXSEY BELAN: Belan has Russian citizenship and is known to hold a Russian passport

- PETERIS SAHUROVS: Sahurovs is thought to be in Rezekne, Latvia. He may also visit Kiev, Ukraine

- ARTEM SEMENOV: Semenov speaks both Russian and English, although his English may not be that good. He tends to stay close to Russian communities.

- ALEXANDR SERGEYEVICH BOBNEV: Bobnev has a Russian Passport and has ties to Russia.

- ANDREY NABILEVICH TAAME: Taame speaks both English and Russian. He holds a Russian passport and Russian citizenship.

oddx··on Protests in Ukraine
They think that best way to democracy is topple legitimately elected government.
oddx··on Protests in Ukraine
You should also add that everybody wants to have well payed job. Question is "Which move would be better?". I think problem is that Ukrainians split in two roughly equal parts: pro-EU and pro-Russia (Yanukovych would not win recent election otherwise) and it's almost impossible to have consensus.
oddx··on Vote Now: Who Should Be Time's Person of the Year? Edward Snowden
It is not about deserves or don't, it's about influence. Yousafzai influence to the World is negligible in comparison to Snowden.
oddx··on Google Can Bring an End to Censorship in 10 Days
Can you provide quote for your interpretation? For me "You cannot stop it if it’s a good idea broadly held" sounds more about global technological and ideological shift.
oddx··on Google Can Bring an End to Censorship in 10 Days
I'm not native english speaker, so sorry if I wrong. But does Schmidt actually means '10 days'? If I understood correctly Schmidt mean that if we (all people who do internet) starts to encrypt everything (http 2?) then it will be more difficult to do censorship. And he unlikely mean 10 days, probably 10 years.
oddx··on Why Russians Are Not Smiling (2011)
In this definition yes, modern Russian people are individualists. But in sense > Extreme cold and very dark days tend to bring people together That is in the sense of small close group they are more collectivists than many of western countries.
oddx··on Why Russians Are Not Smiling (2011)
> Also, this is probably the last thing that comes to mind about Russians in general. For the most part, they are notoriously individualistic.

You understand "individualistic" in some specific (probably american) way. Russians may look individualistic if you don't know them well, but actually in Russia close friends and family means much more then in US.

oddx··on Why Russians Are Not Smiling (2011)
I don't think it's significantly related with modern Russia/Soviets or any recent events. You can found description of same behaviour made by Turgenev (here for example, in russian, http://european-book-review.blogspot.com/2006/04/blog-post_1...) in XIX century.
oddx··on China to Ease One-Child Policy; Will Also Abolish Re-Education Through Labor
