oauea··on On anti-crypto toxicity
How does one turn crypto back into energy?
oauea··on On anti-crypto toxicity
Updated that script for you:

- I want to have a beer!

- ok, scan this QR, and accept the transaction

- there you go!

- thank you, here are your 5 beers

- oh, did I just pay for 5? I wanted 1! can you refund me and take these back?

- sure! can I see your QR code?

- there you go!

- thank you, here is your 1 beer and refund

Note that I'm totally burnt on bitcoin for practical reasons, but your example is just silly.

oauea··on Oggify: Download Songs Directly from Spotify
You can cache them in the spotify client. I was referring to the other kind of downloading.
oauea··on Web scraping is legal, US appeals court reaffirms
My website crashes as soon as it is visited. Don't visit it, or you will be arrested for DoSing my site.
oauea··on Web scraping is legal, US appeals court reaffirms
Since when are terms of service legally binding?
oauea··on Oggify: Download Songs Directly from Spotify
I used to be in the same boat, mostly due to Spotify's recommendation algorithm. Unfortunately they've since removed all ways of giving it feedback about what I like, and now it just recommends the same few songs over and over and over.

Might have to go back to downloading, at least playback will be more reliable.

oauea··on Warpgate: Smart SSH bastion that works with any SSH client
Nice to see this! There are surprisingly few solutions that support SSH session recording.
oauea··on Warpgate: Smart SSH bastion that works with any SSH client
That's just for building the frontend: https://github.com/warp-tech/warpgate/tree/main/warpgate-adm...

Not used or needed at runtime

oauea··on You’re muted – or are you? Videoconferencing apps may listen when mic is off
It could, but you'll notice and then uninstall that app.
oauea··on You’re muted – or are you? Videoconferencing apps may listen when mic is off
I am, because I ask my operating system to mute the microphone.
oauea··on Inside the longest Atlassian outage
Work out a relationship graph and automate the export/import
oauea··on Inside the longest Atlassian outage
You'll quickly run into limitations of how many tcp connections you can hold open. Unless you also want to run separate app servers for each customer, which will cost a lot of $$$

Oh, and just forget about allowing your customers to share their data with each other, which most enterprises want in one way or another.

oauea··on Git security vulnerability announced
No, the .git directory is not cloned. But if the repo is already on disk it can be game over.
oauea··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
Link to any that have my personal data listed on them?
oauea··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
> Nothing you can do will get those lists taken down, even if you're on them.

Wrong.

oauea··on Why Compilers Don’t Autocorrect “Obvious” Parse Errors
> The compiler code becomes more complicated, making correctness harder

> Introducing new languages features may become harder, again due to code complexity

It'll be written for IDEs anyway. Might as well reuse if possible, right?

oauea··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
Vet and pin your dependencies.
oauea··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
Perhaps you should reflect why you are pushing adware to YOUR users then. Maybe you should vet YOUR work more carefully instead of pulling in hundreds of dependencies that YOU haven't bothered to vet.
oauea··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
You should read usernames

Where are those individuals going to host these lists? Probably using a business, such as github or some other hosting company. Just target them.
oauea··on NPM package event-source-polyfill compromised by political activists
If someone is publicly compiling a database of other individuals, and hosts this on e.g. github, you can absolutely get it taken down.

oauea··on Raspberry Pi update removes the default user
Differentiating between hashing and encryption is not pedantic. But sure, go ahead and keep telling newbies to encrypt their passwords.
oauea··on Ask HN: Have you ever switched cloud?
> I need to write this all in a blog post.

Please do. It would be very valuable to find these things when searching about Azure, because this absolutely matches my experience.

oauea··on Using Windows after 15 years on Linux
apt will tell you the file was changed and ask you what to do (keep current, use new, show diff & merge). so you must've chosen to replace it, or used some gui updater that made the choice for you.
