nudpiedo··on Christopher Columbus may have been Spanish and Jewish, documentary says
I've read the new in spanish, it was not just labeled as jewish but as sefardic jewish line (the one particular from spanish jews). Most of them converted to christianity (the called "new christians") and remained in Spain.

On the other hand, Jewish were expelled from the whole italic peninsula (including Genoa, etc) after very extreme period of persecution 2 centuries earlier.

nudpiedo··on Christopher Columbus may have been Spanish and Jewish, documentary says
The purpose was to convert most of population to christianity to achieve cultural unity, and the ones who wouldn't convert had to leave. Usually it is explained only as an expulsion of the jews.

P.D: there are many theories around Gibraltar, specially since it was during succession war and the country was in a civil war.

nudpiedo··on Being laid off and unplanned entrepreneurship
this is highly dated... 2004-2008, the opportunities were others than today's
nudpiedo··on Ask HN: Is there any open source/open hardware Echo Dot alike?
Could be an option even if it is not as fancy as echo dot 4 it’s a great start.
nudpiedo··on Ask HN: Is there any open source/open hardware Echo Dot alike?
Voice capture quality wouldn’t be any great from all directions as echo dots have somehow solved with multiple microphones.

Also is the device facade.

nudpiedo··on Why people do not use their real name in HN?
Why should they? Until Facebook tries to forcefully push people for that it never was the rule anywhere in the internet.

People loved anonymity and privacy, and paradoxically, it actually avoided toxic behave.

nudpiedo··on Show HN: I open sourced the QR designer from my failed startup
The tool is very cool, although at first sight it looks to me like the perfect side hustle rather than a startup… may I know what was your napkin business plan for such a startup?

I guess you put a lot of love in the tool. Freeware, abandonware and open source is sort of a tragedy of the commons for the IT professionals (yes HN, I know there is a global benefit, just no one seems to talk about the cons).

nudpiedo··on Why Janet?
The last time I look at shen it was a complete waste of time, it was like a cooking recipe with all spices combined and then find out the food is still part frozen. Let alone no way to build programs or having 8MB of js programs etc.
nudpiedo··on Facebook inches closer to European blackout
But each case is judge with independence of each other, Meta was first warned, then fined, now it has an ultimatum.

Next comes google.

nudpiedo··on Why big tech companies need so many people
Somehow indie hackers fail to understand that product and organization complexity do not scale linearly.

In spite of being true that hungriness, incentives and other existential features are indeed different, which is also true but comes second to the other point: no startup keeps being a startup after it becomes massive, and many have tried.

nudpiedo··on GPT is all you need for the back end
Nice meme, however it even forgets or gets wrong what previously stated.

Try to implement a user system or use it in production and tell us how it went. It even degenerates in repeating answers for the same task.

nudpiedo··on Implementing VisiCalc (2003): Bob Frankston's design notes
"We originally planned to let people rename the rows and columns with labels and implemented the feature. Eventually we decided that we needed to assure stable reference names so prevented people form moving into the zeroth row or column. Instead we implemented the ability to split the screen vertically or horizontally. "

All the oposite from today's design in which they let people rename everything.

nudpiedo··on I am done. I give up
You got to know yourself better. Honest self discovery is not defeat, now you know for sure what you want and you can pursue it without regrets. Many of us needed to go this path down to realize many dreams are not worth pursing, sometimes minor intensity dreams are the actual call and the actual happiness is in them, we just need to discover that first, and it is not a free journey.

And all that said, you are also right about digital nomad lifestyle sellers. At least we are not in the 70s-90s when the popular call was "stay safe". We got the chance to try which lifestyle we want, desire, can live with.

Take some time to pull yourself together, all things you did made you a better person, and this set of skills will be available for you in all sorts of situations.

You got to know yourself better: honest self discovery is not defeat.

nudpiedo··on Htmx in a Nutshell
It’s all just energy moving around
nudpiedo··on Employee donations shows over 99% bias towards Democrats, in some top tech corps
Thanks for pointing that out, percentage and amount of donations are probably not a good metric to determine the amount of employees of each political opinions.
nudpiedo··on Employee donations shows over 99% bias towards Democrats, in some top tech corps
I am sorry to be the one telling you that, but apparently you are believing parody as reality. It does happen in all countries that some media only show the dumbest people and opinions and a complete group as if these would be a representing majority of that group.
nudpiedo··on Employee donations shows over 99% bias towards Democrats, in some top tech corps
I think Poe's law becoming overwhelmingly real sumarizes the whole thing perfectly. It's been a long while since most of news are nearly indistinguishable from parodies, and also from what used to be humour. Not pointing to any particular side but everyone will recall quite some of those.
nudpiedo··on Employee donations shows over 99% bias towards Democrats, in some top tech corps
why not? US population seems to be 40 to 60% for each side, oscillating during the years.
nudpiedo··on Employee donations shows over 99% bias towards Democrats, in some top tech corps
I way almost shocked when I first saw it, all democracies of the world, and human rights, forbid discriminating people by their political views, and some of those companies, if not all, are even public. I do not think such level of bias can be achieved by any kind of casualty, there must be some kind of selection or purge of employed people, which makes it a discrimination as wrong as racial or gender discrimination.

Hope to know your thought, as the weight of those companies in society is undeniable high, some of them impact directly society's culture.

nudpiedo··on Show HN: Web search using a ChatGPT-like model that can cite its sources
just not generate an answer. Better than google? I do not know, but, incomparable to chatGPT (the one who wants to become). Example prompt: "How does python code that checks that every planar graph is 4-colorable look like?"

in ChatGPt does generate python code. Google just search

EDIT: do not missunderstand it, it is awesome a person can put all of much together, but it is not accomplishing its expectations once seen chatGPT:

nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
As written, I see it feasible with the current technology, just better engineering and UI/UX to have a loop where humans give requirements and specs and just do QA. Too many things would change the landscape in unpredictable ways.
nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
I didn’t complete the debug, but it has an actual compiler architecture so if I ever fix these errors it should in theory yield some compiled code.
nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
It was a first contact, but I believe the whole thing could be automated to the point the human is telling requirements, and doing some QA to verify that things are going as planned, specially for projects which are not too much different from others and just have some new delta on it, often being a combination of unrelated things.

It sort of scares me to think it is just a matter of engineering to get there.

nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
That’s my experience too, even with long experience in the CV or referrals, they got a process to go through. It’s the interview illusion.
nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
If you would know how fast I typed that just to got push on time just corrected them and added screenshots

nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
Everyone’s asking, the typos were actually accidental since I had to take a train on a rushed. I uploaded some screenshots in the following link at my Twitter account, you can see there part of the process.

https://twitter.com/nudpiedo/status/1599444651462733824?s=20...

Some of the errors I encountered, where an obsolete package, wrong, absolute import, a missing token, some president rule which was wrong, and it still was not compiling a time to leave, but I think the experiment proves what I wanted to: development as we know it will be soon gone.

nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
here OP again:

I am still in the train and cannot easily modify the repo, so I uploaded screenshots with the coaching I did to GPT and a bit of the process to this tweet in my Twitter account (in Spanish, but these are self explaining).

https://twitter.com/nudpiedo/status/1599444651462733824?s=20...

These were casual screenshots which I happened to sent to WhatsApp right before the push.

The typos were not intentional, just needed to rush to take the train, but somehow you all thought good about the submission, thanks for such honor

nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
As said… I had to take a train so I rushed typed the top lines and pushed it.
nudpiedo··on Show HN: Whole Git repo was made with ChatGPT
As I had to take a train I just wrote the top lines in the README and pushed it and I am still in the train so there is not much I can do about it.
