(Which is totally valid btw)
Maybe the only difference between us is that I think there is a difference between a description and an interpretation, and you don't :)
In the grand scheme of things, is it even worth mentioning? Probably not! :D :D Why focus on the differences when we can focus on the similarities?
Yes.
I'm not going to be childish and dunk on you for having to update your priors now, but this is exactly the problem with this speaking in aphorisms and glib dismissals. You don't know anyone here, you speak in authoritative tone for others, and redefine what "matters" and what is worthy of conversation as if this is up to you.
> Don’t write a blog post whining about your morals,
why on earth not?
I wrote a blog post about a toilet brush. Can the man write a blog post about his struggle with morality and a changing market?
And, yeah, if you're a >$tn company going into the EU, or even just giving out shares, I agree: consult lawyers :) sound advice. In fact they probably did.
On its face, I don't see a problem. If the situation is as insidious as you describe, I definitely agree with you. But then that's the story. Not TFA.
Maybe lazy evaluated attrsets can help make a dent, but still the lack of static types for module code is beyond painful. It's hostile.
I believe Nix is worth it in spite of this, and I'll advise anyone to learn it, it truly is the way forward, but by god do I hope it's not the last step on this journey. Please, Lord, please don't let nixlang be the final iteration XD
> Norway's $2 trillion wealth fund said on Sunday it would vote for a shareholder proposal at the upcoming Microsoft annual general meeting requiring for a report on the risks of operating in countries with significant human rights concerns.
The Norway sovereign wealth fund is a large pension fund holding the profits of exploiting their natural oil reserves. It’s not related to the EU.
Do you think people in other countries envy the us college system based on rankings? If so I strongly recommend a trip abroad and striking up a few conversations with prospective or enrolled students. In my experience the topic of cost and non dischargeable student loans comes up often. Rankings very rarely.
Where in the world have you polled?? because this is categorically opposite to my experience discussing the US college system
Society is a team effort. That’s what the elections are about.
> undisclosed affiliate links.
That's quite controversial, compared to disclosed affiliate links. IMO for good reason.
Rather than measuring whose French pedigree is longer, I will put down a wager on this. ₹3? :D
This is why you should use a device which allows exporting the seed, like e.g. multi purpose hardware crypto wallets.
Emacs shines when packages combine to form a whole greater than the sum of its parts. Changing basic key bindings is the quickest way to vitiate that symbiosis.
Unfortunately.
And while they may be old school, traditional, and orthodox, they are by no means idiosyncratic. They’re widely supported: readline , bash, everywhere on macos, even modern browsers. Eg you can actually paste in bash: try killing something with C-w or C-k, and paste it back using C-y. Or transpose arguments using C-M-t. Navigate suggestions in Firefox using C-n and C-p. Bash even supports undo using C-/.
All to say: learning emacs movement keys pays off.
Be careful to ascribe reason to established common practices; it can lead to tunnel vision. Computing is filled with standards which are nothing more than “whatever the first guy came up with”.

Just because metadata is useful doesn’t mean it needs to live in the filename.
To be honest, I couldn’t imagine a word more related than "open source". Isn’t that junction literally the acronym F/LOSS?
Was that actually a personal attack, or was it a verifiable claim about the quantity and type of submissions by this user? Is the problem that it was labeled "propaganda", and would it have been ok without that word?
I thought it was useful context to have a look at the submission history. There is a slew of recent [dead] submissions. At what point is it fair to call that out? Or is it about the wording?
Which package is that? Is it proprietary but source available? Any free software which is built from source is built by hydra and available from the binary cache to downstream users.
