notelonmusk··on How to Set Your Google Data to Self-Destruct
I think I had read that Amazon TOS said employees wouldn't have access to your data if you closed your account. I'm sure they have some right to make temporary (we hope) backups but I thought it was a fair clause.
notelonmusk··on Rubber concrete that self-seals and is cheaper and more environmentally friendly
Interesting how we use "more environmentally friendly" now instead of "less environmentally hostile". Language skewed towards marketability.
notelonmusk··on The Government Protects Our Food and Cars. Why Not Our Data?
The perceived impact is much less noticeable than deaths. When the bodies pile up you invest in seatbelt regulations, and may even create jobs making them. What if there's no bodies to count?

> it is impossible to be informed if you don't read the news

being informed is not as valuable when there's more content out than you could consume in several lifetimes

what's valuable is how to derive any value from it

just an opinion

notelonmusk··on Ask HN: What are unintended consequences of new tech you've noticed?
This. Erosion of quality in any kind of art. It's cheaper to do 3d movies than animate. It's easier to sell simpler ideas than a complicated story with a deeper meaning. You also see this in music with stuff like autotune.
notelonmusk··on Ask HN: What are unintended consequences of new tech you've noticed?
Commoditization of human behavior
notelonmusk··on Ask HN: What are unintended consequences of new tech you've noticed?
Unnecessary consequence: assuming what is around you as the norm. Like communication across the globe and having a social media account is as common as toasting bread (see the irony in the last part?).
