Based on your description this sounds to me like a big KYC hole which they are trying to plug in now.
It would be interesting to know how many such accounts exist...

I imagine if some parts could be kicked off as an OSS project, there would be no problem with getting contributors. But for example rockets require a lot of work from a lot of people, but the amount of people who benefit from them isn't particularly big. Maybe their number is only single digit.
> Guys, if you could stop being a competitor that would be swell, thanks
Sounds reasonable. We have seen this with the internet too: if you reported a website bug 20 years ago, frequently it was corrected almost immediately, getting a "thx" the same afternoon. Today people don't even understand what a broken link is, they just claim that things work as they should.
When Google was not evil yet, their search engine was like magic, it just knew what you were searching for. Sure, time makes forget about problems, but there is a reason why their search engine allowed to become the behemoth they are today.
Some time ago I got myself a similarly priced x86-64 Windows tablet on Amazon (Celeron N4020 + 4 GB RAM). I installed Linux Mint on it with a slightly customized kernel (some extra quirks were needed).
I connected an old SSD to it with a SATA2USB adapter, and I use it as a home file server and HTPC. It has a micro HDMI output, and it is connected to my TV. During the day it is playing music non-stop, in the evening it is playing some movies. It has no problem with high bitrate full HD movies, the CPU doesn't even break a sweat. I think it could also play 4K content, if I had any.
(Previously I used a Mac Mini with VLC for this for a few years, but I'm happier with my current setup, it's more stable)
E.g. I have been on the lookout for an affordable email provider which has a reliable track record of having their mails delivered, but each one I have found had at least weeks long period of having delivery issues. Or Android... the only realistic alternative is iOS... well, you tell me which is worse. Sure, I have played with Linux on mobile, and there is a reason why it is not a thing.
Okay, their search engine is the easiest to ditch - they managed to bring its quality down to the level of bing and yandex. The switch is pretty much seamless now...
Also, AI chatbots outright refuse to give any answer that is remote related to piracy (or any adjacent topics). Since they take over the role of search engines, that's also a big factor IMO.
But thinking of this at this moment, this could be a good use for a locally ran LLM, to get rid of all this crap dynamically. I wonder why Firefox didn't use this as a usecase when they bolted AI on top of Firefox. Maybe it is time for me to check what api FF has for this
While AI definitely took away a lot of people from SO, most people are relieved that they don't have to interact with that literally garbage community when they have an IT/CS question. They didn't leave because of the website design, but I also believe that the new design wouldn't have chased many away either.
These users' rule hasn't really worked out so far, as demonstrated by the current state of SO. Maybe it is time to ignore that very small, but very vocal group? Though probably that should have happened years ago, maybe it's just time to cut their losses.
> everything is untrue, that's why we have changed every aspect of our business in the past 96 hours
I gotta say I'm convinced > interest rate of 1.5% per month, which could rise to 3% if a liquidity event is not completed within a year
Lol wut. Loan with 20% or 43% (compounded) interest per year? Are sizzling hot AI startups really forced to go to loan sharks, reputable banks and other venture capitalists don't even come into picture?
Not saying I support stealing, but Nestle isn't exactly going to go bankrupt from this, and frankly, it is one of the last corporations I will ever shed a single tear for. They definitely make it hard to feel bad for them.
On a different note, this industry used to have so much more fun - just solving puzzles to herd bits - before it was flooded by politics.
(Not sure which would be more appropriate)
