non_sequitur··on Macron condemns 'massive' hacking attack
I think it's funny the campaign can't decide whether to announce that the leaked materials are actually legitimate or not. From the Wall Street Journal:

The cache includes both authentic and falsified documents “with the goal of sowing doubt and disinformation,” the campaign said."

Basically, "If there's anything bad, it's fake news"

non_sequitur··on Amazon Echo Look
I don't think engineers are the target market for this product. There's a reason the models in the ad are all women.
non_sequitur··on How to Be Someone People Love to Talk To (2015)
I learned a while ago that just asking questions isn't enough - sometimes people don't want to talk, or are really boring, there's too big a group to focus on one person, or just constantly interrogating a person gets weird, etc. So you should have some good stories in your back pocket as well. If you think about the most popular people you know, they aren't well received in social settings because they pepper everyone with questions - they're usually funny, chatty, quick witted, and can either carry or let someone else carry a conversation. Be like that guy/gal, not the one that can only ask questions.
non_sequitur··on Snap Tumbles Below IPO Opening Price as Analysts Say Sell
Not really a fair direct comparison to FB. Snap's revenues grew 600% from 2015 to 2016 (versus FB's 54% growth), you have to account for growth rate as well. Snap is estimated to be at $2B in 2018 (by Goldman)[1]. So yes, still overvalued, but not nearly as bad as an implied $5B valuation.

non_sequitur··on Alphabet's Waymo Alleges Uber Stole Self-Driving Secrets
They'll most likely have a case, but it's also unlikely that the supplier would be big enough to cover any damages in the high 9-10 figures, they'd just throw in the towel and go bankrupt.

Also an argument that "we stole stuff but you're the one who leaked it so you should be punished" won't play well with a jury.

To be fair ...saying you'd use lawyers to put someone out of business makes no sense unless the company had done something that the lawyers could go after. Hating on lawyers for being aimed at a company is like hating the court system for being available. The bigco's lawyers arent doing this of their own motivation. I'm' sure there was other stuff going on that made the op's company back down.
non_sequitur··on Ask HN: Non-technical readers of HN, why are you here?
i'm a tech lawyer and find intelligent discourse about tech/business/random related things interesting. it's also very helpful to get a 'how techie types view the world' perspective. i lurk and never comment b/c as you said, the audience is primarily for hackers and non-coder comments dont seem as welcome
