nomy99··on Was there a tech-hiring bubble? Job postings data suggest so
I work like a dog and have been since engineering school. Actually was working like a dog in school too. I think I genuinely deserve the pay considering the day to day stress of the job and the complex workload.
nomy99··on Amazon is closing its cashierless stores in NYC, San Francisco and Seattle
I shopped at their location at 30 rock. It was a mixed bag feeling. I was in awe of the technology, but at the same time I felt like I was being overly observed like in a prison.. I never went back, even though I work in the building.
nomy99··on They say that stocks go down during the day and up at night
in a global economy wouldn't this just self regulate because of night/day cycle of earth. i.e day in china and night in usa vice versa
nomy99··on Show HN: I turned my microeconomics textbook into a chatbot with GPT-3
what are you exactly saying?
nomy99··on Show HN: I turned my microeconomics textbook into a chatbot with GPT-3
I asked if God was real, and it gave me verses proving it from the book? But I guess this specific training of chatgpt won't crossreference against other religious texts or relavent opinions from the scientific community? etc. Still a really good way to get contextual religious knowledge on a query use case (ex problems someone might be having with their lives..)
nomy99··on Show HN: I turned my microeconomics textbook into a chatbot with GPT-3
what would be the implications, if let's say, the book was religious? Torah/Bible/Quran ?
nomy99··on Show HN: I turned my microeconomics textbook into a chatbot with GPT-3
definetly will replace us
nomy99··on Show HN: I turned my microeconomics textbook into a chatbot with GPT-3
When I asked chatgpt if it will replace engineers: No, AI language models like ChatGPT are not designed to replace engineers. AI can automate certain tasks and assist engineers in their work, but it cannot fully replace the creative, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills of human engineers. AI is best used as a tool to enhance human capabilities and improve efficiency, rather than as a replacement for human workers. In many cases, the integration of AI and human expertise can lead to more innovative and effective solutions.

paranoid engineer here.. will chatgpt replace us :|
nomy99··on Ask HN: I'm 40 and feel my mental ability declining. Programming seems harder.
It could also be diet related. Are you eating healthy, getting enough exercise?
nomy99··on Being fatter than Homer Simpson
I got rid of carbs including whole grains and dropped 40 pounds in 3 months. A lot of protein + salads and fruits. I had a lot of diet soda as well :/
nomy99··on Ask HN: Why is Microsoft Teams still so bad?
is it?
nomy99··on Ask HN: Google Search down?
down in nyc :|
nomy99··on Bluetooth remains an 'unusually painful' technology after two decades
I'm not sure if comedy was the intent here, but I laughed a lot.
nomy99··on Japan's population falls by record 644,000 to 125.5M in 2021
Where is the evidence that it's taxing the planet?
nomy99··on I need to find an apartment
I am so lucky to have found a room in a descent apartment in a nice part of NYC. As a software engineer making high income, I still almost got homeless in the apartment hunting. Insane!
nomy99··on An Algorithm for Passing Programming Interviews (2020)
Thx
nomy99··on An Algorithm for Passing Programming Interviews (2020)
can you give me a link to one of these forums?
nomy99··on Sad Little Men: Assessing the impact of an elite education
I did.
nomy99··on Sad Little Men: Assessing the impact of an elite education
Is the book review not behind the paywall?
nomy99··on Thoughts of work invaded my life until I learned how to unplug
I have been in a similar situation and the only thing that helped me was religion. Believing in God removes stress and puts things in perspective for me.
nomy99··on Six hundred and forty pages in fifteen months
Look at the free sample pdf on his site. Topic is garbage collection. If you can comprehend that then buy the book.
nomy99··on Six hundred and forty pages in fifteen months
yes.
nomy99··on Ask HN: Do you have a process or a framework to learn specific skills quickly?
No. You are over complicating things.
nomy99··on Ask HN: Do you have a process or a framework to learn specific skills quickly?
No. There are optimized paths to reach the same understanding
nomy99··on Ask HN: Do you have a process or a framework to learn specific skills quickly?
This I think is the same thing as someone saying at the gym, don't stop until it hurts. People get injured and then never go to the gym again.

How about look at the solution, understand the parts. Solve the problem. Revisit, revisit, revisit.

This helped me breeze through engineering and also helped me professionally.

nomy99··on B-tree Path Hints
I think OP is using the wrong data structure, and his fix is bringing him closer to the ideal solution. You need a hashmap function that returns a search range to direct the binary search on the B tree. This lets you add logic on how you want data to be searched in the future. In base case it will work as a the B tree hint
nomy99··on Windows 96
Sadly doom didn't work. I was able to pick a level but the slayer wasn't moving. Still really impressive.
nomy99··on The unreasonable effectiveness of just showing up everyday
Also in dating.
nomy99··on Why writing software is not like engineering (2008)
Not sure why people consider it an art.. some software problems only have 1 correct solution that runs in a time constraint, proven by mathematical induction..Art is subjective no?
