nodefortytwo··on EIZO Announces Monitor with 1920x1920 Resolution
I have 4 screens, 2 24" either side of a 27" and a 15" macbook pro below the 27. I find it much more comfortable to look left and right than i do looking down towards the macbook which is what i feel a square monitor would be like, more up and down movement as opposed to horizontal.

I am really excited about this idea, especially the disaster information aspect. I hope they build a decent system for prioritising what information should be distributed. The connection between an sms request and receiving the most relevant information is going to be tricky, perhaps something like google's i'm feeling lucky might work.
nodefortytwo··on Ask HN: How do you use Docker in production?
we use docker to run tests, honestly we could deploy the resulting images to our production infrastructure now quite happily however we haven't got round to it yet.
nodefortytwo··on Show HN: SeaLion 2 – Linux Server Monitoring, Alerting and Debugging Tool
Love the simplicity and the extensibility of running ad-hoc commands. Pricing looks okay, especially the unlimited tier as I hate per server pricing but $500 cap seems reasonable.

£150 for conference which can't even post a full speaker list and agenda, i'll pass.
nodefortytwo··on Webflow (YC S13) Lets You Design Responsive Websites Visually, Publish Instantly
What I really want to see out of one of these apps is a way to support partials within other pages. It would be awesome to design my whole SPA within a tool like this and then export it in a uniformed way which I could then tie into angular, ember, a cms or whatever workflow I am using.

Personally I don't want the design tool to make those assumptions around what my infrastructure might be, although clearly this particular tool is aimed at non-tech users.

I totally agree, personally, I would still use a product like this but store exports of each site design in git.

worse case scenario you have to go back to hand coding.

nodefortytwo··on More Encryption Is Not the Solution
The main issue is governments can't be trusted, a technical solution (which may not be encryption) is that only option we have.
nodefortytwo··on Pajama.js - because HTML has no place in your Javascript app
The only value I can see is using it for small partials but even then i'm not sure it offers any benefits over stand templates
nodefortytwo··on Sneak peek of Macaw – a code-savvy web design tool [video]
quite interested to see if it can really be used in production rather than just mock-ups. For example can you use the stylesheets from one page across a range of screens and still get the same level of clever optimisation.
nodefortytwo··on Goodbye Google Analytics. Hello Piwik
Piwik is great until you get a decent amount of traffic, I had it on a client site as an experiment. at 100k page views per hour Piwik nuked the server :(
nodefortytwo··on Automating Development Environments with Vagrant and Puppet
Its really important in the first instance to learn how to do things by hand and then use tools to speed up the process. Nice tool though, needs more DB options.
nodefortytwo··on Show HN: OAuth.io released with 70+ providers
That is ridiculous.
nodefortytwo··on .io domains down?
Check out http://www.whatsmydns.net pretty useful for seeing where issues are or tracking propagation.

I created this little app in a couple hours because I couldn't find a tool to do it. Comments very much appreciated.
