nnutter··on Benefits of using tmux – streamlining your development environment
Does it save environment variables too?
nnutter··on Review: The NES Classic Edition and all 30 games on it
To me "analog" vs. "digital" was analogous to "continuous" vs. "discrete". I would never have called an NES controller "analog".

So, "No".

Are there any good options to support logic (and/or) and facets/fields with Postgres? We started using ES basically just for the "free" query language. (Obviously we would want something that is safe from sql injection.)

What matters is the way the law sees it.
nnutter··on Nano is no longer a GNU project
I don't think GPL2 -> GPL3 is a valid example of that. Usually it is to dual-license with a non-open-source license or some other incompatible open-source licenses.

The GPL "upgrade" clause,

> Each version is given a distinguishing version number. If the Program specifies a version number of this License which applies to it and "any later version", you have the option of following the terms and conditions either of that version or of any later version published by the Free Software Foundation.

I can't tell whether you are trying to claim that it never gets updated or show that that isn't true.

nnutter··on SELinux is beyond saving
The man pages are useful, especially once you know the basics. For example, start at [man selinux](http://linux.die.net/man/8/selinux) in See Also see the reference to [man httpd_selinux](http://linux.die.net/man/8/httpd_selinux) and in there you find every type and boolean including `httpd_enable_homedirs`. See also, [man procmail_selinux](http://linux.die.net/man/8/procmail_selinux).

nnutter··on Why my mother’s maiden name is nonsense
An important point for this is that the answers seem to be stored in plaintext (by companies) so you also shouldn't use the same one in multiple places. Simply substituting easily researched information for less easily researched information only solves half the problem.
nnutter··on Welcome to the Python Engineering blog
Because of the community and libraries; not the language.
nnutter··on Announcing Minecraft: Education Edition
I think a lot of kids love Minecraft and it's more a brand than just a game. So in that sense it is an engaging topic.

Minecraft could obviously be used for creative and social play, like playing with LEGO. (I wouldn't say it's better or worse than that but it is a bit different.) However, Minecraft is also programmable so could be used in similar ways to basic electronics.

It doesn't download. It just has UI for video; so does Pocket.

I think the main problem is, for YouTube, it violates ToS so the app usually gets blocked.
nnutter··on Why are Brits so obsessed with buying their own homes?
I've always thought the point of owning a home is so that you have a place to live that is paid off when you retire. From what I've seen renting usually costs more than the mortgage + property taxes + insurance; of course there are still maintenance costs which are more ambiguous. But a large portion (~50%) of my "mortgage payment" is going into equity instead of going into a landlord's equity. If I wanted to rent and save enough to be able to rent during retirement (or to save enough to be able to buy my retirement home at retirement age) then I would have to be spending significantly more per month until retirement. Going into debt by taking a mortgage is a trade-off that makes sense to me given low interest rate and no depreciation in value (hopefully appreciation).

Edit: This is a US perspective but we've had the same question posed here.

Edit: The article's title is misleading. It conflates buying a home with irresponsible use of debt.

And in Ubuntu. Although I don't know if Ubuntu lets you specify the behavior based on the type of the device, e.g. trackpad vs. mouse. Certainly you can configure X per-device but that's not just a checkbox in settings.

nnutter··on Unofficial guide to dotfiles on GitHub
I'll have to look at that more. My initial scan of it is that is very similar except that it manually implemented each Git subcommand whereas mine does not need to because it just wraps and delegates to `git` (even tab completion).
nnutter··on Unofficial guide to dotfiles on GitHub
I've occasionally ran into bugs where symlinks have caused problems. At the very least this is something to be aware of.

nnutter··on Unofficial guide to dotfiles on GitHub
After running into a few bugs do to the use of symlinks I decided to write my own that was really just a wrapper around Git. After installing [gitsick][1] you could add one of your existing repos,

gitsick clone <name> <url>

The files will be deployed directly to your $HOME, without symlinks, and from then on `gitsick <name>` is just a wrapper around Git such that the $GIT_DIR is stored in one place and your $WORK_TREE is $HOME.
