nnevatie··on When can the C++ compiler devirtualize a call?
> final method

A pedantic Pete would mention C++ has member functions.

nnevatie··on C++26 Shipped a SIMD Library Nobody Asked For
Runtime dispatch is still a PITA in Highway, especially compared to ISPC. A simple algorithm or kernel becomes a multi-file macro-hell, basically.
nnevatie··on CUDA Books
To do what? If you need the highest performance GPU kernel performance on NVidia HW, using CUDA is the way to go.
nnevatie··on Canada’s Bill C-22 would weaken protections on private messages
Sloppy McSlopface.
nnevatie··on Gyroflow: Video stabilization using gyroscope data
My a7CR seems to be supported - will try this out later.
nnevatie··on Rumors of my death are slightly exaggerated
... and exactly three fingers, and not six, for example.
nnevatie··on Floats Don't Agree with Themselves
You don't understand. In the modern AI-infested World, it is more important to make grandioese claims with em-dashes or periods working as hype-catalyst, than it is to be correct.
nnevatie··on Agentic Engineering
Indeed.

> As one engineer put it, “This isn’t engineering, it’s hoping.”

As one LLM put it, rather.

nnevatie··on LLMs Are Not a Higher Level of Abstraction
> Namely setting temperature to zero, and turning off all history

That's not nearly enough, though. The multi-node/GPU inference and specifically batching (and ordering in batching) have non-deterministic consequences for the current LLM services.

nnevatie··on LLMs Are Not a Higher Level of Abstraction
The FP math is deterministic. However, the environments in which inference is run and specifically batching make current LLM services practically non-deterministic.
nnevatie··on Bitmap and tilemap generation from a single example
"Wave function collapse" - such a fancy name for a relatively simple algorithm without any connection to actual wave functions.
nnevatie··on Windows Server 2025 Runs Better on ARM
I would rather have some meaningful progress on the Windows scheduler, for example.
nnevatie··on Windows Server 2025 Runs Better on ARM
Ahh, a Windows problem surfaces - so does a registry hack allegedly fixing the problem. That's basically the (sad) story of Windows today.
nnevatie··on 30 Years of HPC: many hardware advances, little adoption of new languages
Usually a new language is facing the ecosystem mass issue - the previously used language, e.g., C++ has already the critical mass with available libraries and frameworks. Getting to the same level of ecosystem maturity with a new language will take a long time, as seen with Rust.
nnevatie··on Darkbloom – Private inference on idle Macs
Only an em dash missing in between to be chefs-kiss-perfect.
nnevatie··on Taking on CUDA with ROCm: 'One Step After Another'
Why is it called "ROCm” (with the strange capitalization) in the first place? This may sound silly, but in order to compete, every detail matters, including the name.
nnevatie··on A Tour of Oodi
It almost reads as you were not a fan.
nnevatie··on Show HN: I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++
Completely agreed. However, typically a new tool needs to be significantly better for that to happen. In many ways, I see Meson already being that but it hasn't really gained traction at scale.
nnevatie··on The tool that won't let AI say anything it can't cite
Considering that Claude sometimes confuses the identities of itself and the user, this might as well cite the user - "you just said X".
nnevatie··on Show HN: I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++
People using CMake might want to build the same code on multiple platforms - this is trivially achievable, unlike with Make.
nnevatie··on Show HN: I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++
Cmake might suck, but is arguably the de-facto now. It's not standard, since the C++ committee does not want to deal with the real world (tooling).
nnevatie··on Show HN: I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++
The em dash - it's always the em dash.
nnevatie··on Show HN: I built a Cargo-like build tool for C/C++
The same AI tool could have written a de-facto CMakeLists.txt file for you.
nnevatie··on Winners of the 2026 Kokuyo Design Awards
It's a pile of paper. Not sure my description sells it any better.
nnevatie··on DRAM pricing is killing the hobbyist SBC market
Who really needs more than warmth, shelter and something to eat and drink?
nnevatie··on Tell HN: Chrome says "suspicious download" when trying to download yt-dlp
You wouldn't download a downloader.
nnevatie··on Goodbye to Sora
Good riddance.
nnevatie··on Astral to Join OpenAI
> I am so excited to keep building with you.

Fixed: I am so excited to take these millions of dollars.

nnevatie··on Monkey Island for Commodore 64 Ground Up
Seriously good-looking gfx - kudos!
nnevatie··on DOS Memory Management
Good times. Our DOS game PaybackTime 2 was only capable of using conventional memory. That was a major reason for the game really not having any proper animations for its player characters.
