nnevatie··on Taste Is All That's Left
Yep, it is slop. I got 2-3 paragraphs in and closed the tab, as too many LLMisms raised their ugly heads.
nnevatie··on We finally learned to center a div, then browsers added sidebars
Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.
nnevatie··on Taylor Farms has rewritten its cyclospora statement four times in sixteen days
This is the right shape!
nnevatie··on Why we write our own C and C++ inference engines
I would rather read faulty English, succinct sentences and getting to the point, than the generic filler LLMs produce.
nnevatie··on Why we write our own C and C++ inference engines
Yes, it’s basically business-as-usual but on speed.
nnevatie··on Show HN: Physically accurate black hole you can put in your room
Setting render scale to 1 definitely helped - the aliasing from the lines is gone.

The rest of the circular aliasing could likely be fixed by requesting MSAA, so e.g.:

renderer = new THREE.WebGLRenderer({ alpha: true, antialias: true, powerPreference: 'high-performance', })

nnevatie··on Why we write our own C and C++ inference engines
The post is full of signs. Here's only a couple of examples:

> The method, the measurements, and what it costs us.

> That is the general shape of these wins.

> Parity is the gate, speed is the follow-up

I could go on and on, but you probably get the point. If you don't find anything funny with the above, you might have not been enough-exposed to slop.

nnevatie··on Why we write our own C and C++ inference engines
Came here to say the same. Really tiring to read these slop-infested posts, where everything has the “right shape”.
nnevatie··on Software for One
> maintaining them

In the agentic era, there is no need for maintenance - each artifact is immutable and just-in-time. In case you need a new version, spin up a new artifact.

I’m only half-joking.

nnevatie··on SDL_GPU minimal, single-header, high-performance 2D graphics painting library
The naming of the library is pretty confusing, considering SDL_gpu is an official part of SDL3.
nnevatie··on Show HN: Physically accurate black hole you can put in your room
This is on Chrome/Win11:

nnevatie··on Truth is not a direction: a Tarski attack on LLM probes
> those people want to win an argument

Indeed - X, specifically, is infested with "Grok is this true?" -type discourse.

nnevatie··on Show HN: Physically accurate black hole you can put in your room
> https://blackhole.plav.in/

The lines in the demo look upscaled and aliased for some reason.

nnevatie··on Show HN: Immersive Gaussian Splat tour of grace cathedral, San Francisco
The ellipsoids are what a splat renderer uses as primitives, usually.
nnevatie··on Show HN: I RL-trained an agent that trains models with RL (for –$1.3k)
I'm curious to whether the recursively trained models degenerate to troglodytes after a couple of generations.
nnevatie··on Against Usefulness
> “I don’t need the monitor anymore.”

Yeah, you just need a complicated setup of machinery that observes the room and multiple conventions on content tagging, etc.

nnevatie··on Why Vanilla JavaScript
Aka. I didn't like the N frameworks out there, so I invented 2 more. Now we have N+2...
nnevatie··on AI Can't Recreate the Thrust Game (But It Can Help You Understand It)
Ok, that makes sense. I was commenting from a modern gamedev context.
nnevatie··on AI Can't Recreate the Thrust Game (But It Can Help You Understand It)
No one, ever, uses centiseconds in this context.
nnevatie··on Giving a domain a hill to climb: benchmarking as data activation
It is a new brand of a “cool” FAD.
nnevatie··on Show HN: Homegames. An open-source game platform I've been making for 8 years
Hmm, not sure why "Weed Smoke Willie" would require any of that? It looked like an interesting game, though - I hadn't appreciated the idea of fishing shark with weed, before.
nnevatie··on Performance per dollar is getting faster and cheaper
I used to be high-performance like you, then I took an arrow to the knee?
nnevatie··on 2026 Unslop AI-Written Fiction Contest Results
I get it. However, consuming data without consent is not well defined, when said data is publicly available on the internet. Licenses for code, and not abiding them are a different thing, I think. Most authors (of books) wouldn't credit their inspirations, unless specifically asked about them.
nnevatie··on 2026 Unslop AI-Written Fiction Contest Results
> distillation of stealing all of the world's current art

Here's the age-old dilemma, though - how is reading stealing?

nnevatie··on 2026 Unslop AI-Written Fiction Contest Results
> each NPC is voiced by AI and can respond to you in a convincingly human fashion

This is no longer fiction - see the latest AI update of PUBG.

nnevatie··on Best Simple System for Now (2025)
Does BSSN still apply to the agentic era, though? Agents are compilers for ideas and architectural molding is kind of trivial at this point. So, one can start with an execution that works for the current state and complexify the implementation lazily if and as the need arises, later.
nnevatie··on Jamesob's guide to running SOTA LLMs locally
> SOTA LLMs locally

Shouldn't the headline be about running SOTA _local_ LLMs, as GLM 5.2 is nowhere near a SOTA LLM?

nnevatie··on What to learn to be a graphics programmer
There's also plenty of us creating our own engines for the games we develop. Whether the mentioned games ever get finished is another topic...

If it's all for a hobby, creating your own engine is a lot of fun by itself.

nnevatie··on Popping the GPU Bubble
Yes, the title seems off - I also thought I am going to be reading about the AI/pricing bubble.
nnevatie··on Zig – SPIR-V Backend Progress
> why zig and not one of the others?

I think one of the selling points is that the language does not come to your way and allows unsafe constructs. So, I think the target audience is roughly at C and C++ users.
