niteshade··on A list of macOS, tvOS and iOS bugs while helping my family over the holidays
Oh wow, quite literally everything. My condolences :(
niteshade··on A list of macOS, tvOS and iOS bugs while helping my family over the holidays
Big +1, the integration between iPhone and Apple TV is so poor it is shocking.
niteshade··on A list of macOS, tvOS and iOS bugs while helping my family over the holidays
Have you tried opening a bug at bugreport.apple.com? I've posted there with varying levels of success in the past.
niteshade··on AWS Single Sign-On
I believe they announced Go support for Lambda at re:Invent this year.
niteshade··on Serverless dev practices questions
We recently managed to implement Cognito User Pools with hosted pages, the details are on the StackOverflow page[0].

niteshade··on Ask HN: How many of you quit using Facebook or rarely use?
I made a New Years Resolution to stop using Facebook, deleted the apps on my phone but occasionally end up on it by accident through my browser through shared links etc. (never logged out, just stopped visiting).

The only thing I use is Messenger because people still contact me on that.

niteshade··on Caution on macOS 10.12.4: sudo is broken
> The ONLY fix that works is an erase/reinstall and manual reinstall of apps and data and reconfigure. This can take many hours for advanced users like me, with a detailed working environment.

This line bugged me a bit, surely if you're a "pro" user, you would have a set of dotfiles and a script to install things from Homebrew.

niteshade··on How to Write a Git Commit Message (2014)
One reason I can think of for using the imperative tense is to use commit messages to generate changelogs. AngularJS does it this way, wouldn't be surprised if there were others.

And what about macOS and Airports?
niteshade··on Jest 19: Immersive Watch Mode and Test Platform Improvements
Could someone point me in the right direction for mocking? More specifically, I'm trying to mock the AWS-SDK in a Serverless project. I just can't get a grasp of it from the documentation.
niteshade··on Neutrino by Mozilla: Create and build modern JavaScript apps with zero initial config
This! So much this! I've spent the past few days thinking about making a "Webpack Cookbook" with up-to-date "recipes" for getting the job done, such as how to use SASS, add linting, hot reloading etc. Mozilla have definitely made my day :)

I might be in the minority, but I'd rather not learn all the idiosyncracies of Webpack, I just want to build my project and get on with my day. Webpack have done a great job with the documentation for v2, but it remains a complex beast.

niteshade··on I'm prescribed Fentanyl – AMA
Speaking of, have you tried marijuana for pain relief?
niteshade··on What Pro Computing Could Be
A week or so sounds a bit ridiculous. The only thing you need to do is install Xcode, then run a script which installs Homebrew. You can even use Homebrew Cask to install macOS apps, and MAS to install anything else from the App Store. All-in-all from installation to scripts completion, maybe an hour?

Source: Our IT department is a bit of a nightmare with Macs so I have to set them up for all our devs.

niteshade··on The Dropbox hack is real
Wouldn't multiple user profiles have their own extensions? If so, then just install the extension on that profile? IIRC 1Password was working on something related to that, so perhaps that has changed recently.

HTTP auth not working is a bit annoying, but it's not a massive deal when you can CMD+ALT+\ and copy-paste it. Same deal with non-browser based stuff.

niteshade··on Facebook is building its own Steam-style desktop gaming platform with Unity
I'd go a step further, Unity is the Fisher-Price of games development.
niteshade··on Don't use JSON web tokens for sessions
I actually think your advice is more harmful than helpful - web developers are not renowned for writing secure software. This is a very good case of finding a good, well-tested and vetted library that does this. Not sure what options exist, but I would be highly surprised if there weren't any already.
niteshade··on Ask HN: Disabling paste in password boxes - why is it practiced?
Have you got Full Keyboard Access enabled? (Preferences > Keyboards > Shortcuts). Works fine for me on El Capitan.
niteshade··on We Tried Slack and Regretted It
I've had the pleasure of dealing with the Gitter team, and they are an awesomely talented bunch of devs.
niteshade··on Ask HN: New job is having me switch from Linux to Mac – how do I cope?
Spectacle (www.spectacleapp.com) is a free, open-source window layout manager. You can customise any of its keyboard shortcuts and even install an Alfred 2 workflow for it.
niteshade··on Zurb Ink: Responsive HTML Email Framework
Guess its a pity Microsoft never heard about sandboxing, eh?
niteshade··on Zurb Ink: Responsive HTML Email Framework
Zurb just became my favourite company in the world.
niteshade··on Dvorak, a superior keyboard layout
The whole thing about Dvorak keyboards being faster to type on is a myth. See link for details: http://reason.com/archives/1996/06/01/typing-errors
niteshade··on Show HN: I just released Requests for PHP 1.6
Love this library, been using it a lot lately.

Expect a PR from me in the near future :D

niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
That is correct. What would you expect it to do?
niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
Absolutely non-intuitive?
niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
Well, PHP has four 'tan' functions, and in all fairness, I might just remove those functions altogether and leave the basic ones. I do agree that its longer to type now, but at the expense of remembering WTF atan() does.
niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
Yeah, I think that'll be the way to go. There's apparently a new way of writing extensions, might've gotten slightly more bearable since you last looked at it :)
niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
Yeah, mostly. Also because its how it should have been done. PHP Internals should strive to clean up PHP to conform to my work ;)
niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
Well yeah, efficiency wasn't the aim.
niteshade··on Introducing Syngr, my attempt at an Standard Library for PHP
Incessant? I suppose it is, the language is in real need of it.
