I have a hard time believing that AI can be used to label AI-generated videos without there being a significant number of false positives/negatives. I think back to ZeroGPT and it labeling the Declaration of Independence as AI-generated.
It's about time -- I hope rideshare drivers unionize in California as well. A UC Berkeley Labor Center study (2024) found rideshare drivers take home $7.12 per hour in median net hourly earnings before tips, which is less than half of California's $16 minimum wage at the time. https://inequality.org/article/exposing-the-rideshare-indust...
Surprisingly, Uber hasn’t had a mass layoff since 2020. The company currently has ~34,000 FTEs, which I personally think is insanely bloated for what amounts to a taxi + food delivery app.
Raised an eyebrow for me too. It’s interesting to see people subconsciously (?) assign a gender (him/her) to LLMs rather than using the appropriate “it.”
Simon mentions further along in his article that given Jeff Dean’s post referencing the pelican-riding-a-bike task (and how good current models are at doing it), that it’s no longer a great benchmark to use. Enter the opossum riding an e-scooter!
They have the money to do so, and investors are aware that it is a long term play. Waymo is already dominating the market for all intents and purposes.
Human drivers (especially Uber/DoorDash drivers) stop in bike lanes all the time without repercussion. Pointing the finger at Waymo for this doesn't negate the larger problem of it not being enforced by local traffic enforcement.
Waymo undoubtedly drives better than your average rideshare driver - I have taken dozens of Waymos in SF and the experience is unmatched. Also no chance of being harassed by the driver, which is a big plus.
