nickthegreek··on Show HN: I built a macOS tool for network engineers – it's called NetViews
The info on your About page

>NetViews is a modern, macOS network scanning app inspired by the specialized needs of IT, engineering, and network professionals. It combines host discovery, port scanning, real-time monitoring, and vendor/DNS insights with a clean, native interface - giving you the tools you need without the complexity you don't.

Should be right on the front page above the fold.

no, they are not.
nickthegreek··on Homeland Security Spying on Reddit Users
Feels like it’s once again a Lucy holding the football situation.
nickthegreek··on Hackers (1995) Animated Experience
I didn’t know it was released on laserdisc! Looks like the going rate is around $100 US.
nickthegreek··on Recreating Epstein PDFs from raw encoded attachments
They censored Dont in one location. The current Thought process is they were redacting mentions of Don T.
nickthegreek··on Hackers (1995) Animated Experience
Nice little blog post that looks at these interfaces in the movie:

nickthegreek··on Hackers (1995) Animated Experience
I highly recommend the 88 films 4k blu-ray release for those who love Hackers. I recently was able to purchase an unopened VHS tape as well. I have a brand new VCR coming so I can have a proper experience.
nickthegreek··on GPT-5.3-Codex
Why is it loser? He very well could be a sore winner here.
nickthegreek··on Claude is a space to think
I am going to assume that is a question asked in good faith by an inquisitive mind. That assumed, asking that question to any proper LLM will provide an answer more in depth than I am willing to type this evening.

Palantir, to me, is the weaponization of big data, where advanced analytics are used to target vulnerable populations. Not just abroad, but here against its own citizens. It is the dystopic enabler that we have been warned about.

Palantir and the words from its leadership seem to me to be in direct opposition to parts of the Constitution doc that Anthropic hold up to show their ethics and seriousness.

nickthegreek··on Yawning has an unexpected influence on the fluid inside your brain
Most of those can also be done consciously though. Yawning is different. It is more inline with flatulence, crying, or vomiting. Actions that are in many ways, outside of our direct control.
nickthegreek··on A sane but bull case on Clawdbot / OpenClaw
There is a large amount of gatekeeping called installing and configuring this software. It is not a trivial task that normies can easily accomplish. You have to walk past so many red flags, that you would rightly be called in idiot if you lost anyting of value.

I'll be more concerned for the public when its a double click. Currently it's just a way for techies to fafo. And I do enjoy that there are many people out there messing around with it. It is closer to the 90s experimental net mindset and than I've seen lately. It is also fun that its not a big corpo release. It is not often quick and dirty small team software blows up this big and gets noticed by the world at large.

nickthegreek··on Yawning has an unexpected influence on the fluid inside your brain
I literally yawned as I clicked on this article from my RSS reader. The contagious nature at the mere idea of a yawn is wild.
nickthegreek··on Show HN: Craftplan – I built my wife a production management tool for her bakery
At my work, I am not an engineer, but work in the operations side. Our managers have a hard time getting engineering resources to do similar stuff like you were discussing.

I have been empowered to be the quick and dirty build guy for small local apps instead of fighting for engineering resources. Now our managers regularly hit me up on slack with small little items that if built, could increase productivity for their teams. I love it. I'm mostly building systems that work with google workspace (docs/sheets/forms/email). So its a lot of little appscripts, or single html file apps made available via google sites. Most of our operations staff dont have all the required underlying expertise to quickly pull this kind of thing off, and are not interested in strengthening those talents. It has allowed me to shine bright while also providing much needed relief to many teams.

That courage was nowhere to be found when Palantir rolled up with a truckload of cash.
nickthegreek··on New York’s budget bill would require “blocking technology” on all 3D printers
it is a number larger than the trigger happy opposition.
nickthegreek··on New York’s budget bill would require “blocking technology” on all 3D printers
> He attempted to be a hero by drawing on a federal officer.

Absolutely vile smear against a hard working VA nurse and stand up citizen.

There were zero attempts made by Alex Pretti to draw a weapon. He was being a hero by helping 2 women move away from the masked officers forcefully pushing them.

nickthegreek··on New York’s budget bill would require “blocking technology” on all 3D printers
He wasn't standing next to 25 other liberals who had armed themselves.
nickthegreek··on Nvidia's 10-year effort to make the Shield TV the most updated Android device
It’s a single app. several are open source. I recommend flauncher. Once again, you are overly complicating a process that you do not know and are arguing from a point of ignorance. As you point out, it’s a 10 year old platform. It’s very stable and known. I am done trying to let you see what you are not interested in.
nickthegreek··on Nvidia's 10-year effort to make the Shield TV the most updated Android device
Friend, you are #11 on the leaderboard here on HN and you stated that enabled dev mode is too scary. I promise you, you have the skillset to research that your worries are false and you can accomplish this easier than rebutting me on this. I believe in you.

Once your find your comfort, you might even find other items of joy that are being gatekept from you like SmartTube.

nickthegreek··on Nvidia's 10-year effort to make the Shield TV the most updated Android device
replacing launcher is gonna take you 10-15mins. 30 max if you aren’t a complete fool.

It happened today. Literally go to ANY news site.
nickthegreek··on White House Posts Digitally Altered Image of Woman Arrested After ICE Protest
Palantir has an image generation model? It seems to me that Grok is the most likely as its already on the network where the image was posted and is known to be used for this sort of thing. Gemini has no problem creating the image from the source either.
nickthegreek··on There's a hidden Android setting that spots fake cell towers
I believe you need an activate sim in order for it to work correctly, is that correct?
nickthegreek··on OpenAI could reportedly run out of cash by mid-2027
I feel like they are signing many commitments way beyond that timeline.. some of them possible circular with the possibility to really dent the economy at scale. That’s the part that makes it news.
nickthegreek··on After 25 years, Wikipedia has proved that news doesn't need to look like news
can you provide a few examples where grokipedia outshines wikipedia?
nickthegreek··on Scott Adams has died
I don't find it fair, nor in good faith to claim my argument is lazy. By downloading the media of the artists who's behavior your find abhorrent, but who's art you enjoy (and you can separate the art from the artists), you can assure yourself to some degree that they are not receiving monetary gain. People who were interested in the Harry Potter game (but didn't want the author to finance) simply pirated the game. Roman Polanski, R Kelly, and many others artists are exploited in this fashion.

I do agree that the consumption of that media could very easily increase its cultural strength.

Even in your influencer example, there are ways to bring less traffic/ad views to that content while allowing some ability to consume. example here: https://libredirect.github.io/

nickthegreek··on Scott Adams has died
People consume media without paying anyone. The internet is kinda famous for it.
